I worked for years on and off for the government........I had a charge of supplying a dangerous and illicit drug as well as a couple of assault charges. since it was my first drug conviction, I got two years probation. This was when I was 21. For 5 years I worked in a pathology lab in a major hospital when I turned 29. They do fairly strict police checks being government and a hospital. I was still employed as they did not have access to such sensitve information but if I applied for ASIO(Aust. Security and Intelligencs Office), different story. you need to get in contact with your federal discrimination board(industrial act) to find out your rights. And no, you DO NOT need to disclose your mental health condition. In fact in an interview or follow-up, I would not discuss it. If the DUI is mentioned( and I am gob smacked that is even allowed) you can calmly say that it was a serious error in judgement. You have recieved help in the process of understanding the consequences and due to this you have learn't a new skills base - problem solving, understanding action and consequnce in a more enlightened way, resilience, advanced social conscience, codes of conduct and ethical behaviour which you can apply to the workplace. Make your learning from this experience a benefit to their company. It is through my bosses knowledge of my work during mental illness that I was made training supervisor. Make it a plus. You can do it!! Good luck....... ![]()

That sounds a lot like me, except I'm bipolar not bpd. Have you ever been diagnosed bipolar? I take lithium now and it has solved those problems for me, yet I am faced with all the DUI's I had in the past potentially cropping up. Mike |
