Not sure if it's a symptom, but I have intense episodes of anxiety.

From what I understand (and I'm by no means an expert), anxiety is often co-morbid with BPD. Personally, I consider my anxiety to primarily be a symptom because it's most often related to other BPD symptoms. For example, crippling anxiety that someone will leave or I'll be embarrassed/humiliated, stuff like that. But I guess if it's more generalised anxiety, it could be considered a seperate disorder?
Best wishes

It's considered separate but if you have bpd you often have generalized anxiety disorder or depression, etc. I have had bpd for about 16 years but have only had generalized anxiety disorder for 3 years. It's not fun, I was on zoloft for a year which helped but made me feel like a zombie, now I'm on nothing and honestly need to be on something. One of the big things I get anxious about is sicknesses, if I hear someone say they are sick I freak out and wonder when me or my family will get it. I have anxiety over other things also and will wake up with anxiety attacks in the middle of the night, have stomach issues because of it....I could go on. If you look up generalized anxiety disorder on web you'll find some info.

It's my understanding that anxiety is a common component of BPD. Laura..I'm like you. I'm extremely tense, all the time. I use bible verses and talk to God and it helps from moment to moment. For me, that's the only thing that works. I hurt so much to hear that you live with that. It's so easy for me to look at you and hurt tremendously for your pain. But for some reason we can't do the same for ourselves. ;/
Thanks for this!

I too experience anxiety a lot. It's such a difficult feeling because I find no amount of rationale helps in those moments. This is just me of course. I become consumed by the physical feelings it brings on.
Sorry you're going through such a hard time with it. Have you tried CBT or breathing techniques to help with it?

if i tried breathing techniques id be breathing all day 22/7 hahahahahahah (as I only sleep about 2 hrs per night)

THE only thing that helps is anti depressants. ive been on them for 5 years now. i came off of them for a brief stint in may til just 2 weeks ago and really couldnt handle it so had to go back on them and going back on them has ceased it and im back to non anxious and sleeping again.

I just wondered if it was part of the bpd or if i had a separate anxiety disorder,,, i didnt really find out from the pdocs... i was in too much of a state to enquire!!
