At my last appointment at the pdoc's (Tuesday) we had to work on another med change.. and WALLA, she looks at me and says 'if anything I would change your dx because you just don't fit the Bipolar criteria. Meds aren't doing much for you. I'm going to put it as Bipolar NOS.' I said great so now what? She told me that the Bipolar traits I do have are the overlapping traits of Borderline.. So she then proceeded to say that since I suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder... yeah that's where she lost me.. I don't remember a thing she said after that.. I was validated! Took me a whole year and med after med to get her to see that my T and I knew what we were talking about.. Now on to treating the correct dx..

It's not necessarily a one or the other; sounds like you have both if your doctor is keeping the Bipolar NOS (means she's keeping track of the bipolar issues; make sure they don't get "worse", which would put you back in the I, II, or cyclothymic category).

For insurance purposes I need the Bipolar dx.. they don't reconize BPD yet.. But I (and she) will be keeping a close eye on any symptoms of MIs. Just happy that I can finally, along with my mood stabilizers and anxiety meds, move forward in therapy and get the help I need to learn how to cope and be more 'normal', whatever that is..

It is frustrating that pdoc's especially feel the need to trial every med on the book & only when they fail to do what they are supposed to do that they scratch their head & say......"maybe I was wrong".

I went through the UCLA psych hospital when my depression first hit & none of the meds were working.....they were trying to figure out exactly what was wrong.....in was major depression.....but it was so major....they had never seen it come out in the way it did with me....so they sent me to all the professionals at UCLA's psych hospital to try & figure it out......& I came out of there with no one knowing anything more than when I went in......grrrrr.

Know how relieved you must feel now that everyone is on the same page with your DX & treatment.
