Does BPD = evil?

In another post, someone wrote that they felt they were evil.
I have felt this all my life and I wonder if that is a symptom of BPD or is it that because of the BPD we are evil?

Many people say that those who have anti social personality disorder are evil because they are not able to feel compassion for others.

Are BPDers evil too because of out disease? I know I have seen episodes of crime shows, like Law&Order and Women Who Kill, where the criminal is identified as having BPD.

Do people really think we are evil? What behavior(s) do we do that they consider evil?

Does any of my fellow BPDers feel evil? Why? Do you think we really are, or is feeling that way just another one of those emotional illusions we suffer?

I knew nothing at all about BPD until I started reading up on it in the last couple of years, to better understand friends here who have it. There's still a lot I don't know.

I would think people put the "evil" label on it because of the extreme retaliation some (not all) Borderlines engage in when feeling abandoned? It must be pretty intense for others to experience someone blowing up in your face when abandonment was not actually intended, or to be physically attacked or be manipulated when a relationship of any kind ends or isn't going well.

I wonder if "feeling evil" for Borderlines may be partly due to observing one's own excessive reactions and others' shock at them, and partly due to looking for an explanation for the real or perceived abandonment? If I feared and expected abandonment, I would try to figure out WHY I was being abandoned, at some level. That can't be good for a person's self-esteem ... the self-condemning conclusions a Borderline might come to must be awful to experience. ((((( BPD ))))) is all I can say.

I know there's more to BPD than the abandonment theme, but there's my two cents worth as an outsider wanting to understand.

I think people put to much emphasis on LABELS !!!!!!!

My opinion is people see one person in one situation, be it on tv, dr office, in the store etc, and they then form a stereotype of a whole group of people, especially when it comes to mental illness and personality disorders. And the mental health community/professionals don't do much to prevent the stereotypes on PD's and some feed into it. No-one that I have seen on this forum with bpd seems or is evil, actually everyone I've met here so far has been extremely nice, maybe it's because we don't feel judged here or we're online and not face to face, but whatever it is, I don't see evil in anyone with bpd. I just see people trying to cope with a very misunderstood disorder. Hugs

people with bpd are definitely not evil but it is common for bpd sufferers to FEEL that they are.

edit: i just realised it was me who said that! i was in a very bad emotional state that day and felt abandoned by my T. when i feel like that i automatically jump to thoughts of being a bad person. in my mind if i do anything bad or feel criticised in anyway i get deep feelings of being a terrible person.

i am more clear headed today and i can tell you that i am not bad! nor are you or any other bpd people inherently bad because they have bpd. i don't know what the root cause of that idea is but i know a lot of bpd's feel it. doesn't make it true though!

No one here is evil! There has been no evil content in all the threads, I have read.

BPD=Evil is a generalization.

Could this evil feeling be from self blame, guilt and feeling responsible for past traumas and interpersonal problems?

Not only do I suffer from feeling evil, I've had a few people in my life *tell* me that I am evil.......

That is actually what I am trying p figure out. Do some of feel evil because of the shame from our past?

Or is the evil in us "real" and the reason we were victims of out past, because others saw that evil in us and decided to make us pay for it, even as we were children?

Or were they ones who traumatized us perhaps evil? Or maybe just ignorant and struggling themselves?

A perpetrator chooses to violate another person on their own, for whatever reason. No one makes them do it. These EVIL people justify their actions by minimizing them and blaming the other. They lack boundaries, are very manipulative, have very poor impulse control and other severe issues.

I strongly do not believe bpd has anything to do with being evil . This is a feeling I have never experinced myself . Borderline personality disorder is a mental health disorder . Nothing to do with being a bad person. Some people with bpd might have such low esteem issues that they feel they are evil or other's see them this way . I think tv shows can betray the disorder inaccurately , and I wouldnt take them really that seriously . take care and hang in there

"Evil" is a value judgement. No one with BPD is inherently evil but some words and actions that negatively affect others are sometimes called evil. I suggest letting judgements like these go....

I have mixed emotions on this issue. I've always felt very guilty and shameful, for as long as I can remember! In my mind, on an average day, I feel that I'm an evil person. That belief seems to be embedded in my mind. I can't explain WHY I feel so strongly about it, but I do.

Yet, when I see posts of frustration, written by those who don't have BPD... And they're complaining about the person with BPD in their lives, I become defensive and really angry. I want to tell them that they're lucky to have someone willing to give their all to them, they ought to be happy dammit!! We bring such compassion for others in life, people should be appreciative that we try hard to please others.
