I am concerned that I have bpd but I am worried about talking about it with my counsellor because I hope to be a mental health nurse in the future and eventually hope to be a child psychologist. If I am diagnosed with it will it affect my future and the chances of me being hired?

It will hurt worse if you DO have it and it goes untreated!
![]() I don't think it should have any affect on your getting hired since your counselor would give you the "ok" in going on with your life. I wouldn't worry about it. God bless and take care. Hugs, Lee |

A lot of counselors and psychologists BECOME what they are because of their own personal problems. They know how hard it was for them to deal with and they want to help others. If you have the ability to, you need to get help. If you are able to get yourself under control, you will not have a problem becoming whatever you want to be. And I agree with Leed....no one would want you to treat their children if you didn't treat yourself first. On the contrary, a lot of your future patients would probably have great respect for you knowing that you know what it is like to have a mental illness, and that you were able to fight it and win!

carm and Leed have got it...
I personally would be skeptical of a counsellor who did not have problems themselves and have lived through it to help others. best luck. |
