Just curious as to who knows about your diagnosis?
Only my husband and I have recently told my oldest daughter about it. Also I have told my cousin who I trust. I did tell my sister about a year a go but she called me mad and I got all angry with her so I have not mentioned it since. |

One person who helped me discover it.....and then left me to deal with it on my own. My husband knows but I didn't count him because he's in denial....

I've tried to tell my family and my best friends.
As they mean so Much but they don't get it. They see it as an excuse! For my behaviour I'm done caring. F em |

The people closest to me know (family, SO, & my best friend).
For me, individually, I began to feel like not saying "I have BPD" was the equivalent of not saying "Voldemort": it just increased my fear of the stigma and made me feel even more isolated. I felt like it might really take a village to help me work through things, so I figured I should probably let the village in on my little secret. For the most part, everyone has been pretty understanding, even if they don't really know what it's like to feel like this. ![]() |

Other than my doctors and people at group therapy, only a few family members know about it. I'd gladly tell anyone though. I'm not ashamed to have this disorder.

Too personal to share and too misunderstood.
People close to me (not many) just think I can't handle things and especially things others can handle, and that there is no rhyme or reason to that. It is true, that I can't handle some things and fall apart when others wouldn't, but I would be exhausted trying to explain or defend that, and I just have no interest in doing that. With time and work, I get better at handling things. Very few know I'm in therapy as well. This is about me, not them ![]() Also, I don't consider it to be something that I "have". I consider BPD to be merely a description of ways I perceive and respond - those are the things that can be explored, worked on and changed. I do "have" a thyroid condition and for that, medication is needed. (Not to say that medication for some resulting symptoms of BPD can't be helpful) . |

I was officially diagnosed a few years ago, after being diagnosed with bipolar and ptsd. I have told only my immediate family and a few friends. Most don't understand because it's something they can't see or measure, like a broken leg, so they discount it. I have grown used to it and seek solace from people, like you, who understand. It took a lifetime to develop this personality disorder, so it won't dissappear easily. The best we can do is treat the symptoms, and talk out our problems to each other. The ptsd is bad at times, I have nightmares and get startled very easily. I don't talk to anyone about that, even my therapist. It's too personal.

My T, a few friends, here, and my pdoc and that is it. My family doesn't think there is anything wrong with me so I haven't told them about this dx.
