For 4 weeks i have been taking Effexor XR and its been very effective, i just went to pick my prescription up and have noticed that its doesnt say 'venlafaxine xl,' (uk name for effexor xr) it just says Venlafaxine.
So does this mean it isnt extended release? and if so, is it going to be different taking it?

You could look up the manufacturing label online and this will give a description of the medication. I mean maybe a visual description that differentiates the two.

There is a difference between the two, but you'd definitely have to call your pharmacy (or better yet, go back to the pharmacy) and ask which one they gave you. If your doctor prescribed extended release, they have to give you extended release and they should replace your prescription if they've given you the wrong version of the medication.
I am prescribed the extended release version of Wellbutrin and have taken the regular version before and have only noticed minor differences, but my pdoc definitely prefers that I take the extended release and really, I prefer it as well. |

They gave me the standard version... It took me 8.5 hours of constant phone calls to get my prescription so I'm just going To carry on with it for the next month... I've began feeling extremely depressed again today though.... Maybe that's why I don't know
