I want everyone to know what, at least for the moment, I feel much better. I passed the U.S. Postal Exam today and found a job at a local university that is absolutely perfect. Things have a tendancy of imploding on me and I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but I feel hopeful about job prospects for the first time since moving.

My 19 days of straight working start on Saturday. Yay. Everyone can stay tuned and watch how badly my mindset deteriorates as I work. It'll be a blockbuster for sure.

Congrats Maranara!!

Sorry that you're coming up on another long set of workdays...ugh! You've always got lots of support and care here & other places. Please don't forget that in the dark moments that come.

Onto better news...what will you be doing at the university? Teaching again? Do tell!

I wish I could teach. That requires a Master's Degree which I never got. It's proctoring and administering standardized tests. I have proctored such tests for a close to 20 years and I've been scoring them for over 10! It pays as well as I could probably expect from a teaching job here, and the best part is I'd be able to go back to school for free! Maybe I COULD be teaching there in a few years!

Just so you know, I am severely limiting my time here. I made an impossible to remember password and when I'm done I log out and don't get back on until at least the next day so if there's a gap in between hearing from me that's why. I have to. This place can cause me to deteriorate and cause paranoia...but I need the support too. Trying to work out a compromise.

I'm also not posting notes on anyone's pages or inviting people back as friends yet, but will accept friends to anyone who used to be a friend who asks....

Don't actually have it yet, but it's at least something to give a bit of hope, which is something I really need right now. I will say this, however, if I interview for that one job and don't get it I will crash very, very hard and it will be close to impossible to pick myself up.

Oh, and another thing. I'm still not really supporting others on their threads. For this I apologize. I'm very, very fragile right now and can't disturb the fragile respite I currently have going......

I am happy to hear you are searching for employment away from the computer. Getting away from that machine is a good thing. Although sites like this can be helpful (or harmful) it is important to have an outlet in the physical world. Once you have a job, you should find this helps with mental health (as long as you don't access problem websites on work computers and/or on a phone).

What is the US Postal exam? Is that for employment?

So happy to hear that you have hope. That is a wonderful thing. I will say a little prayer that things go as you would like. I know what you mean about this place being a trigger for bad feelings sometimes. Though I have not been here long, I have been in AA a while. In those meetings we talk about being able to share our experience, strength and hope with each other. I think that the same thing applies here. Those of us who are in a good place can perhaps help those who are in a not so good place. At least here I don't feel like an outsider. I am not different from everyone else here. But oops, talking about me now. Hang in there.

I have little choice to find something not at home. It's literally become a matter of life and death. I've deteriorated so much this past year from working at home. I'm anxous most of the time, have total roller coaster emotions, and have started finding myself in crisis lately.

As for the US Postal Exam. It's a test required to get a job with the post office in the states. You apply for a specific job and then they invite you to take the test. It seems to me, barring the weather, that being a mail carrier would be perfect for a BPD type. You work on your own most of the time but are still out and about and are still at least marginally associating with people, but not usually on a close, personal level. If anyone is interested in the US Postal Exam, just go to www.usps.com. They make it clear on many places on their site that most of the newspapers ads and such that you see are scams and that you never have to pay a fee to put in an application or take the test.

My aunt worked for the USPS for like, 25 years or more. She started off as a mail carrier, then was a mail handler (they work on inside the post office with the cancellation machines, etc), and then worked in the maintenance office. It was a good job and paid well.

My dad always talked very, very favorably about the USPS and encouraged us when we were little to try to get a job there. He'd be happy. I've been thinking about that a lot since passing the test.
