Now I'm stressing. I know why but it's not helping to know that.

come Oct 17, I will be moved in.. if you can call it that. I mean I have nothing really to move but dishes and clothes and stuff. I have no furniture to speak of. So there is one main stressor. I have to figure out how to get 3 bdrms of furniture, living room and dining. Obviously I can't do it all at once, since that would be ridiculously expensive! Before anyone says it, I know.. I can go on craigslist, but then they expect you to pick it up and I don't hve any friends with a vehicle to do so. I'm stressing because I need at least to have beds! >.<

Then thinking about other factors... need to set up electric, cable, internet, etc. My student loan is coming due.. and so on and so forth. never handled it all 100% by myself O.o

I'll be glad to have it all settled and I know it will work out, but at the moment it's making me anxious D:

I know just what you're going through. In July, the wife and I moved into a new home, and it was very stressful. Had me spinning a little bit, but it has been a little more than a month, and thankfully, the feelings and anxious thoughts have calmed quite a bit. It will take time, and (even though I only know of you what I have seen you post) I believe that you are more than capable to handle it. (As far as picking up stuff from Craiglist, just rent a truck or a van. Even the Home Depot rents trucks, and some places, furniture stores, etc. will deliver.)

I think a lot of it has to do with that i hate setting stuff up initially and I hate loose ends and right now, quite frankly everything is a loose end!

It does sound pretty stressful but if you try to break it down into little pieces it might make it more managable.

First and foremost, setting up the utilities ready for when you move in so you know that everything will be usable once you get there. As you hate setting up stuff initially I reckon getting that one out the way first will help. You could do a different one each day. Electric one day, then phone/internet the next, and cable the next day. Something like that anyway.

Once that's all sorted you can start thinking about furniture. You already pointed out that beds are the priority so start with that one. Take a look around online etc and in stores. I'm not sure what your budget is like so don't know whether you're after new or secondhand. But if new then stores will deliver them for you, maybe with a little added cost but not too much. I find that on amazon there are quite good deals and they would deliver too. Also as luvmydog said you can rent a van if you need to.

When you have moved in you can worry about other furniture then. When I moved into my house a couple of years ago we had a bed and not much else. We would sit on random garden chairs borrowed from our parents and eat dinner on our laps watching films or something on a laptop we didn't really mind though, we were just happy to be in our own home!

Another one of the stresses I hve is that I think I owe the cable company money and they're going to tell me I have to pay some exhorbitant amount of money to get it turned on >.<

There isn't one. Besides I need the 30+ mbps speed and I aint getting that speed through satellite internet...

Only satellite or cable. it's all time warner or comcast in the states. Time Warner is here in this area mostly. and we don't have a choice.

Okay,
#1 Make a list of all the things that you need to do. If you need to make a phone call, look up the number and put it on your list as well. When you complete a task, scratch it off your list. It is a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. Add things only as absolutely necessary.
#2 Handle anything that you can handle with a phone call all at the same time. Call the phone company, cable company, internet, ect. Or at least as much as you can handle. When you get ready to make the calls be sure you have pen, paper, etc at the ready to make notes, write down confirmation numbers, etc.
#3. Try not to worry ahead of time about why things might not work out (like the cable company). Just make the calls and find out. If you do owe money, talk with them about how you can get what you need to get paid, paid. Also, you may need to make up your mind that there are some things that you will have to do without for a while (like cable and internet). Remember that broadcast TV is still free, you just need an antenna, and internet can be accessed at WiFi hot spots or where it is free.
#4 Regarding furnishings...Don't be afraid to tell people what you need. Get the word out that you are moving in to a new place and need assistance with furnishings. In the past I have had things that I would gladly give to folks. Also, let people know that you might need to borrow a truck or whatever to move things. Check with local thrift shops etc. My only concern is about bedding. In GA it is against the law to sell used bedding because of the bedbug issue. Just for that reason, I would only get new bedding, but as a friend of mine once said "is there ever a day when mattresses aren't on sale?"

I know that a lot of this is easier said than done. The making of the list and getting myself organized is what helps me more than anything. I even put on my list when I plan to do something and how long I think it will take. Hope that this helps.

We have Comcast and AT&T here in Michigan (Charter in some areas as well, but not mine) and I hate Comcast. Their customer service is just atrocious. Unfortunately, their internet speeds are the fastest and I don't bother paying for cable since I watch everything on the internet, so...

I'm surprised you don't have AT&T. I thought they were all over.

there is at&t. I dont use them for anything. if you mean for internet, that's just insane. their dsl is horrid for speed.

Time Warner, as far as I know is pretty much in cahoots with Comcast anyway... pretty much the fastest you can get but then with their monopoly in the area for cable... service sucks cus they know they have you.

When I had it last it was either really too slow for my needs (gaming and downloads) or it would cut out for no reason for periods.. again interrupting my gaming and downloads >.<

well I think I've taken care of part of this. Cable company did have me call to verify some information but did not state anything related to owing them anything except to start service they have to take the initial month's amount of $104. So I feel better about this so far... although there's something in me that wants to expect something to go wrong, of course. >.<

Thats great news! I always have thoughts like that too, expecting things to go wrong. Just go with the flow. If they wanted you to pay back anything you owe I'm sure they would have said so on the phone. Stay positive

I can so relate. I just moved a couple of months ago and even though I'd done it several times before, it just seemed like something I could not accomplish by myself. And then I would think about the date -- in one month it will be all over and I will be living in my new home. To make sure that I wouldn't forget something or wait too long to make that cable company call, I did an internet search for a moving checklist. Whoa! Lots of results, but I ended up using one here: Detailed Moving Checklist - Printable Moving Checklist for Excel. Lots was irrelevant because I was only moving across town, but it sure helped me feel more organized.

About furnishings. There is an organization called Love Inc (yeah, it's really churchy and religious) that I once donated some furniture to. They came and picked it up and told me a little bit about the couple they would be delivering it to. Later I found out there was an affiliate in the little town my folks live in and that my dad was a volunteer who helped deliver furniture. I looked it up online to try to find out how one qualifies for help, but I guess one has to call and ask. Anyway, that's just a thought I had if there was an affiliate in your neighborhood or a similar charitable organization. (Warning: the website can be quite off-putting if you are anti-religion, but I would hope they would help without being pushy.) Not pushing this one AT ALL, just putting it out there as an idea, an option, and thinking there must be other organizations who do this.

I don't think you would take offense at this; I know money is tight and moving is expensive.

I don't take offense at such things nor do I find churchy, religious sites off putting personally thanks for the thought though. I'm not religious per se, but I am a believer and so I just kind of shrug off the overly religious stuff unless it's a RL person pushing it in my face then it bothers me

I'm not at the point where I am seriously considering looking at donations yet but definitely something to keep in mind! Thanks so much for the ideas.

I think what we'll end up doing is getting cheapo mattresses and chairs to get by for a bit and slowly replace the cheap stuff with nicer. After all it's no hurry, i'm not planning on moving again for a long time.

*update* i got the setup done for my electric woop! i need to make a deposit on the account before connection but other than that it's set! 2 things checked off.. man, I'm on a roll! AM I AWESOME OR WHAT? no, don't answer that... I know I'm not.
