with all these new changes in my life, the move being about a month away... and doing it for the first time on my own I've realized you know what? I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FRAK i'M DOING!

I ws looking at furniture.. ok costs..fine it's going to take awhile but that's not the problem.

For the first time since having my own "room" as a kid, that I went all out and decorated myself... with silly sht of course.. I have a whole new place for me and the kids and I don't even know the first thing about really having your own place and how to make it "home". I mean really? yeah I'm in my mid 40s and I've never really lived this way, on my own and being the one in control of such things. yes I'm serious.

I don't think I've ever really even seriously thought about these things.

any suggestions?

If you want some tips on decor etc. there are sites out the wazoo on the net. (Believe it or not, Home Depot and Lowes are two good ones, the explain the whole color pallette, etc. in their paint section. Which colors go with what, not so much for paint, but color in general. They also explain what the soothing colors are, etc.) If you are interested in what to put up, pictures, decorations, etc, then you may want to check into furniture store websites. They are always trying to sell you little extras, but sometimes they explain why you should buy the little lamp, knicknack, or whatever. Just a cpl of ideas.

you sound a bit overwhelmed and confused as to how to go about making a home for yourself. this can be scary, where do you start? first you start with the bare necessities, the rest kind of finds its way in as you go. beds, a couch, perhaps a chair, however much seating you need for the living room to seat everyone comfortably. keep in mind, everyone will not want to sit on the couch together. dining set or tv trays. set of dishes, glasses, microwave, silverware, set of pots and pans, utensils such as wooden spoon and spatula, knife set, cutting board. mop broom, toilet scrubber. towels, shower curtain.

you can pretty much survive off those basics and build from there. visit thrift stores if you don't have a lot of money to buy things that catch your fancy to decorate with. you can get end tables to put dust collectors on. bring the kids with you and let them help pick things out. that will make it a home. take care.

You'll get it together, trust me. In a few years you'll be wondering "where did all this crap come from"

So true, take it from someone who recently moved. I like your sense of humor, GeorgiaGirl. Too funny.

Now, that does look comfy!

Don't worry, like others have said, buy the essential and the rest will follow and before you know it you'll have too much crap to mention! Personally I like décor to be neutral. I love cream and brown. Throughout my place it's done out in brown, cream, white and black. Don't like it too fussy! Simple and uncluttered

That totally screams MAN CAVE ---- haha, awesome.
As for decor or shiat, that depends on the eye of the beholder. In time it will accumulate and really, lots of guys just aren't into 'decor'. Cool pictures on the wall of stuff you like, don't just get Stuff for the sake of Stuff, get things that make you feel good when you look at them
