I am a man with Borderline Personality Disorder and Bipolar disorder.

Many women have helped me in this forum. God bless every one of you.

My question is - Are there any guys here to talk about this disorder?

Hi, I'm a guy. Althought I'm guessing my demographic (gay) probably has more incidence than straight men. I act "normal" (aka, not noticeably gay), but I doubt that makes a difference. Not sure if I'd be in your category.

Hi Imhotep,
I'm a 28 year old guy in recovery from BPD. I've been working on it in therapy for most of the last 10 years and have made a lot of progress. Feel free to message me privately if you want to chat, or we can discuss anything here.

don't think that being either gay or straight has anything to do with it.

I'm a female and I have BPD and Cyclothymia (a bipolar disorder). I have known two men with BPD.

Just out of curiosity, why do you seek men to talk to?

I think I agree with your premise........ I do not think that 'where you put your wiener' makes any difference to how your brain functions on these issues.

(hope that is not too gross for anyone)

It's kind of ridiculous and funny in a sad way that the DSM used to include homosexuality as a disorder, before BPD was officially put in. I'm not gay, but I have gay friends, and the past inclusion of homosexuality as a DSM "disorder" shows that almost anything can be falsely "medicalized" and labeled as a pathology. All it takes is for dumb psychiatrists to get together and come up with a list of symptoms

Sorry this is kind of naughty of me and off-topic. No offense intended; just thought some people might be interested. This example is one of many reasons why I place little value in the DSM.
Thanks for this!

BPDtrans, I think it is important to realize that the DSM is, to an extent, faulty. Most opinions about mental health are subjective. What exactly is normal? Who decided? The problem that I have is that promiscuity and substance abuse often listed as symptoms for things. How many partners makes one promiscuous? How many drinks makes someone a person with a substance abuse problem? I am salty over the fact that gender identity disorder is in the DSM.
