So, I was on Buzzfeed and was bored and did one of their little quizzes entitled "How Much Do You Hate People" and I scored 60 out of 65. I thought it was pretty funny actually and know it's just something humorous -however, it got me to thinking. People really do just annoy the F*&# out of me...why? So many things just p*** me off. When I look at this list (you are supposed to check off all that you hate) I also see a lot of it is just impatience more than anything.

Yet I work in a non-profit job where I help people everyday. From afar people who I don't know p*** me off...yet if one of them was my client, I would see the good in them. Often we get client's that everyone at our centre thinks is a complete a-hole, and I end up able to connect with them and see the good in them (I am extremely intuitive and empathetic). I just hate that other random people annoy me so much. I hate that I also judge random people I don't know.

Why do the things on this list drive me freaking nuts??? (BTW I could probably add about 500 more things to this list)

  1. When someone walks really slowly.
  2. When someone walks really slowly while blocking your path.
  3. When people walk really slowly up stairs in front of you.
  4. When people walk really slowly down stairs in front of you.
  5. When people stand on the escalator.
  6. When people bump into you.
  7. When someone delays the elevator by running on at the last second.
  8. When that person takes the elevator to the second floor.
  9. When people yell for no reason.
  10. When someone has an annoying laugh.
  11. When someone is laughing and laughing at something that can’t possibly be that funny.
  12. When someone cuts in line.
  13. When people suck at waiting in line.
  14. Group projects.
  15. When someone repeatedly taps a pen.
  16. When people are walking in front of you and then stop suddenly.
  17. When someone drives slowly in the fast lane.
  18. When someone makes loud chewing or drinking sounds.
  19. When someone takes forever at the ATM doing god knows what.
  20. When someone takes forever using the self-checkout at the grocery store.
  21. When someone blocks the aisle at the grocery store.
  22. When someone gets in line ahead of you a split second before you were there.
  23. When someone talks really loud on a plane or a train.
  24. When the stranger sitting next to you wants to chat.
  25. When people get on the train before letting others off.
  26. When someone leans their whole body on a pole on a train.
  27. When people take up a seat with their bag.
  28. When people save seats in a movie theater.
  29. When there’s a crowd anywhere.
  30. When someone says “excuse me” because they’re too lazy to take a different path around.
  31. When someone says “excuse me” for any reason.
  32. When all the seats somewhere are taken.
  33. When the only seat left is next to a weirdo.
  34. When someone parks poorly.
  35. When someone takes the parking spot you were clearly about to take.
  36. When people leave a mess.
  37. When there’s a line for the bathroom.
  38. When someone does anything weird in a public restroom.
  39. When someone takes forever in a single-person bathroom.
  40. When someone plays music without headphones.
  41. When people push through the crowd at concerts.
  42. When someone spills a drink on you.
  43. When someone randomly bursts into song in a non-Broadway setting.
  44. When someone randomly bursts into song in a Broadway setting.
  45. When your neighbors are really loud.
  46. When your neighbors play bad music.
  47. When you neighbors play good music.
  48. When your neighbors say hi.
  49. When someone looks over your shoulder at what you’re reading.
  50. When someone asks you for a favor.
  51. When someone says, “Are there any more questions?” And then someone asks a question.
  52. When someone gets all up in your personal space.
  53. When someone gives you a look.
  54. When someone asks you to explain your job.
  55. When someone asks, “Read any good books lately?”
  56. When someone asks, “What kind of music do you like?”
  57. When someone asks, “How are you?”
  58. When someone says, “Good morning!”
  59. When someone says, “Happy Friday!”
  60. When anyone speaks.
  61. Laughter.
  62. Children.
  63. The laughter of children.
  64. When people are around.
  65. People.

I can really relate to what you're saying. Most of what's on that list irritates me too. Most of it probably irritates "normal" people, but if you have BPD your irritability can go haywire and cause rages, which is not good. I get easily irritated when I'm highly anxious (which is a lot of the time). If I'm very, very anxious I have no patience with anything or anybody. I'm a quiet BPD, meaning I'm storming on the inside and no one would suspect even half of these things really bug me.

That's exactly how I feel I am, a quiet BPD...I don't freak out and yell at people, I am almost always polite (I ***** and moan a lot though and yell and scream when I am alone) but most people wouldn't have a clue about what is really going on inside. Inside there is a storm like you said...just churning. I hate the anger and irritability I constantly feel.

Thanks for your reply :-)

Oh yes, I hate [stupid] people. Leaving the house can be challenging unless I'm in a great, amicable mood. When I'm driving, I'm constantly yelling "Idiot!" at other drivers or pedestrians. They can't hear me of course. And I guess I'll have to be more careful now that it's warming up and I might have the windows open. Walking through the grocery store can definitely get me into a rage. But like you, all the rage is kept inside.

This one really irritates me. Don't ask me if you don't want a genuine answer. I'm not going to reply good when I feel like crap.

The giggles annoy me, because I don't understand why someone has to keep laughing and laughing at absolutely nothing.

Another one to add to the list is: people walking directly behind you.

I don't hate people. They just annoy me, especially with their subtle ways of communication. I wish they would be a lot more direct and honest.

What I don't appreciate is being judged based on my social ineptness. When that happens I have no problem telling a person to F off.

OMG. This has everything to do with BPD. BPD is all about deregulated emotions, which includes anger. I can't speak for others but, when my anger is very intense hate comes up very easily. I can hate the world and everyone in it. When I feeling good, no, I don't hate and I'm actually a kind and compassionate person. It's that jumping around of our emotions that makes our lives a living hell. If you've never had this kind of anger I really envy you.

I took this quiz, too. My results say I definitely hate people. I also have bpd and believe that list must have made by one of us! I definitely have black/white thinking. If I'm having a bad day, I can hate everyone and everything around me. I hate this about myself. Those who say they do not know what this is like... cannot understand. I envy that about them. It's either really up or really really down.

Hey guys, it's nice to know I'm not alone! (Though I'm sorry you guys have to feel this way too). I do think the list is a little more about how people annoy you. It is actually good to be able to laugh at some of the things sometimes. I can think of so many things that just annoy me. I can't believe they didn't add "someone with clicky shows walking behind you" or "someone who talks on their cell phone on speaker phone in public places".

I think for me too, I have ADHD so blocking out annoying people is really hard.

I'm with Verity. In person, I prefer cats.

I don't know why I dislike being around people so much. Maybe it's that I'm terribly socially inept and find small talk extremely irritating. Maybe it's that I can't handle people's annoying little habits.

I try very hard to ignore and accept people's idiosyncrasies because I know I have the same annoying habits. Humility isn't easy, so I limit my exposure to others.

People trigger me so badly that it's best I be around them as little as possible. It's safer. I doubt I'm going to learn any new tricks in therapy that will force me to like people more. The most I can do is tolerate them like a bad rash.

Whilst the many emotions i experience with BPD can be strong and at times, rather frightening, i'm not sure if i can really say i 'hate' a lot of things rather than feeling, annoyed, frustrated etc etc with them. Being autistic too means my aversion towards the public generally will always be there but there are variables. Do i want to be in a large crowd, say at a shopping center, that's full of screaming children and elderly people who walk more slowly and people who have no consideration at all they don't care how or where they're walking? No. But then most people don't. It's not all about me. Just another perspective

It made me laugh too. Sometimes I think it's good to just laugh at ourselves. I have spent so much time trying to hide my emotions and who I am and trying to pretend certain things don't annoying me.

Considering anyone that can take the time and make a list this long of things they hate, it causes me to question wht your focus is on much of the time. Perhaps an exercise would be to force yourself to make a list of the opposite things?

It's a simple thing and human nature to list negatives about life, people and everything, it takes a lot more effort to force yourself ot see the good things in those others that just like us are flawed and have many bad behaviors.
