Hi there
![]() I'v been battling mental health issues for about 12 years now. Diagnosed with General anxiety disorder by my doctor about 4 years ago. I'v tried different meds which haven't worked. Last year I was referred to a therapist, she has been great but I'v had troubles opening up to her. After a year of therapy I don't see much improvement, I thought maybe I was undiagnosed bipolar as I suffer from major mood swings, anger, jealousy, paranoia, melt downs and basically cannot control my emotions.. But after much reading, I fit every symptom to borderline personality, my therapist has also brought all of these symptoms Shown to my attention, but haven't been diagnosed with anything or really treated. I'm not looking for an online diagnosis, but I am looking to try and get help, I am a prisoner to my own mind and it's just plain torture most of the time. Do I bring it up to my therapist that I think this is the problem? How does this work? I don't want to talk to my doctor about it, I don't feel I can. I think is just be honest and explain how I feel, symptoms, bring up what your therapist has said, your goals in treatment abd what you wish to gain from their help.

Be honest and open with your T.
For the record, a lot of Ts won't tell a patient if they think they have it if it is not good for treatment because of the stigma. If you bring it up, maybe you'll find out if you do or don't. For the record, I wouldn't self diagnose, but if you are suffering from symptoms of BPD, I'd recommend addressing those in your own time. Reach the web, buy books, practice mindfulness. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the replies. I always seem to put off seeing my therapist whilst I'm at my lowest. But then when I come back up I manage to pull myself together and book in with her. So by the time I see her, I am more optimistic and that's the part she sees I think.
Although I am truthful about the meltdowns and such and she has gave me ways to help with the outbursts and the reactions I have within my relationships.. It just feels impossible to apply them at the time of my breakdowns if that makes sense. There is the MMPI 2 test that is also helpful in diagnosing beyond talking to your thrapist. It's given my your therapist. I actually just took it this past Friday as my other half whom I'm quite worried about is also taking it. I'm interested to see what it says.
