I'm not sure. I feel a decrease in anxiety taking it but I'm also taking a other medication during the day/night on top of it so I can't really say if it would help during the day even if you just took it at night.

Thank you for all of your replies!

I dont think i will know until i come off the xanax and try it but thats another reason that she has to let me try it while having xanax there; that way if it doesnt work for anxiety in the day, I can come off of it & go back to the xanax.

All of my Drs seem to know I dont abuse medication and so its not that; she doesnt want to prescibe two things unless they are meant to together but getting her to realize that i do have a job and i have gone off on people and i must be able to control the anxiety at work to keep my job i jave a feeling wont be easy. But its the ONLY way I will try it. She has to get that the job thing. Whom wouldnt get that? And she doesnt read my chart & doesnt listen so here is another great chance to change to the other psychritrist in their group if she doesnt get it.

That's a great idea. If she won't let you have the Xanax because of your job, get a new psychiatrist for sure.

I think I'm going to go back on it despite the weight gain after 3 nights of 4 hours or less of sleep. It does have other benefits.

Im SO worried about the tiredneess in the daytime and if it will actually help my anxiety in the day. My emotions are so extreme and the anxiety is extreme. I also already have severe exhaustion that comes and goes w/o medical findings so its been noted as being a mental symptom. Sooo...dunno.

Anyone have any tips on this?
I took seroquel many years - loved it. But tried to OD on it, it's been long enough now doc would let me back on if I wanted but honestly it would be too much of a temptation now. Seroquel causes drowsy side effects that wear down as your body gets more accustomed to it. It can cause weight gain. At first it may cause dizziness and nausea. If you are on too high a dosage, you will get jittery or feel high rate heart palpatations. If your body reacts adversely you may have hallucinations. As far as "taking at night" - it is best to start taking it at whatever time of day you intend to eventually end up taking it so you don't have to change your scheduled dosages later. Just be aware you will need to be able to sleep more frequently in the beginning.

Seroquel helped me a lot for mood swings and also with my psychotic symptoms. Back then it wasn't dubbed as a drug for BPD, but being I have PTSD, GAD, chronic major depression with psychotic presentations, insomnia, and BPD - it came in handy for a few things. Anyway, hope that helps.
Thanks for this!

Just gotta make an appointment with my psychritrist and get her to prescibe it without ripping my xanax out from under me, that way if it doesnt work; i'll have something that does. I have to control my anxiety for my job.

I went on the anti-depressant and Abilify merry go round...they do nothing for me so I dont know about this. I get nervous with medication changes.
Anti dep n abilify is horrible (at least for me) - did nothing but create new symptoms they tried to treat with more drugs - i started doing essential oils and vitamins and relaxation techniques mostly now though since they started giving me attitude when i would give them feedback on the side effects i was feeling. Hope you find something that works for you.

Why exactly do they want you off xanax? Just cuz it is a benzo? That was actually the only drug that controlled my anxiety when it would get in high gear. Now I use lavender essential oil.
Thanks for this!

Thank you for all of the informtation!

My therapist says it onlyakes you tired for a few days but from reading how it made them sleep, that makes me worried.

I suspect that I will be given a low dose; non-anti-psycoctic type of dose for help to control my extreme emotions while helping the anxiety at the say time.

They dont exactly want me off Xanax, im not addicted to it, only take it as I need it, always go back to her way after the 3 months when im supposed to be out of it (and that includes while being on opioid pain medications; I split the two up on my own and she knows im on it but not addicted so shes had me on xanax for 7 yrs). Its just simply because its now approved for BPD and BPD has me by the cross hairs. Xanax helps very well with the anxiety but not the leveling off my super extremes of emotions and my therapist was looking for some temporary help with that but I may just do the DBT workbook and help it on my own. Not sure yet.

I was watching a documentry at work yesterday and its proven that people with BPD has a decline in the brain where emotional stabilty is at and impulse control is at. So if its a brain thing then medication makes sense but its also been proven that DBT, which is specific for BPD, does help one learn how to control and regulate their emotions and tolerate distress by themselves so just not sure I want to go through another medication change.

And yes, Abilify sucks, for me. Put me to sleep for a month before i gave up on it and stopped taking it.

I work in an incoming call center for a Nationwide internet company as a 2nd level internet and PC technician. Hopefully soon being promoted to level 3 and then thats the step right below supervisor.

I also build PC and program PC, web design, write programs etc. I have no degree, no certifications (though need to get some certifications, its about a $200 test but need several) and all 100% self taught and still learning as there is a never ending aboutnof programming to learn; such as APKs (phone apps), I write computer programs, dont know yet how to write APKs. Android is Linux based so I want to learn Linux coding as well.

WOW that is a big accomplishment. I applaud you for being able to work and learn. Most people with your past and now MI would just lie down and accept disability payments. Again HOORAY for you.

I have to differ. I think you are amazing. You need to get "hoorays on a daily basis. I hope the very best for you in the present and in the future. Was the fall a suicide attempt?

Again I take my hat off to you.
