So my mood swings are getting worse and more extreme (which I didn't think was possible) and now when I'm depressed I'm experiencing suicidal ideation with a few fightable thoughts of actually acting on it. So I've been there before (without the mood swinging from there to actually ok which is why I say my mood swings are worse and more extreme) and I know relatively soon I'll have a plan with intent. But two problems stand in the way of going to inpatient.
1) I really don't think it's a good idea to miss the beginning of my first year of college
2) I'm terrified of what the adult unit may be like. I've only ever been on the Adolesent unit and I've heard bad things about the adult unit on my three stays on the Adolesent
So I ask two things
1) what would you do?
2) what is the adult unit like. Is it just like the Adolesent? Like schedule wise, I can handle the people I've been on one during my stay to see the medical doctor, I keep to myself so I shouldn't cause anyone to get mad at me. I've had a severe schizophrenic on the Adolesent ward and even though their screaming and such triggers my psychosis, I can handle it

When would you go and how long would you stay? A week or less shouldn't interrupt with college, right? Could you go before classes start?

It sounds like you could handle the adult unit. There will be some people more sick than you and some less. If you've been in the adolescent unit before then you can handle it. It's really not so bad. When I went I just found a couple of older ladies and talked with them the whole time (I'm 26) and it worked out great.

If you need the help, don't be afraid to get it.

Your health is more important than school. If you need to go, then go.

I haven't been on the adolescent ward so I can't tell you how the adult unit compares to it. If anything it shouldn't be that much different.

I would believe the staff would know which unit is best for you. If your old enough to reason through with questions your capable of getting through the experience. Use your wisdom to judge those around you; I'm sure the staff will be on hand to assist you. I'm sure you can do it!! Need some advice

With my experience working at a mental hospital for children and have been to the adult hospital as well. I can honestly say that the adult mental hospital is not bad. Mostly people to them selves and may have those that act out (rarely). It's a 20/20 if you go straight to school, how will you cope with much added stress. Going to be an impatient, you get help right away, and have time to figure something things out....good luck
