Hi everyone,
As I'm starting to read about ASD in regards to another person in my life I am starting to think about what Axis II means. I no longer have a dx of PD after 6 years of weekly therapy with the same therapist. Has anyone else successfully been able to overcome their PD?

I still do have PTSD and now I have a mood disorder NOS (I had a PD NOS). My teenage daughter also has mood disorder NOS and it is my goal not to have it develop into a PD NOS or NPD which she has been at risk for. It is my guess that because of the PD NOS being treated it was reduced to mood disorder NOS as the symptoms are far less severe now.

Thoughts?

I hope it is ok that I started a new thread today as I started one yesterday too on how having a PD NOS impacted my life before treatment.

Interesting topic. I don't have BPD and my PDNOS probably looks more like NPD and my original (I think) OCPD than BPD. Most of my BPD-like emotion is mostly internal, I think. Somebody else might see something differently.

Is it OK if I read and maybe post here, anyway? My experience has been that most psychologists don't know a lot about how to help people with PD-like symptoms. It's great that you have become symptom free after therapy.

I'm about to quit therapy after 6 and a half years with the same therapist. Much better than when I started although I now believe -- and have the sense of self-integrity to see that? -- my symptoms got much worse by botched (traumatic or retraumatic) therapy years ago, before I was diagnosed with or treated for a PD. That's probably not relevant to the here and now, of course, just saying. . .

I am not a mod, but I think its fine to post here. I had a mix of borderline and narcissistic traits. I had a great psychologist. I am sorry you had bad therapy. Have you tried the ptsd or complex ptsd forum as well?

Thanks, the T have been seeing for 6 1/2 years specializes in trauma and dissociation and also diagnosed me with DDNOS. She's been pretty good with the trauma and dissociation and, except for the trauma of having had bad (previous) therapy, that part seems to me pretty cleared up.

She hasn't helped so much with the personality disorder part, though. I don't know that I have a whole lot of symptoms per se. It's . . . hard to describe. It's like there is no "me" that I care about. Only that's not true, exactly. No wonder psychologists have resorted to listing symptoms in the DSM to try to get a handle on this stuff!

I think I'm going to start a thread in the complex PTSD forum on my theory that it is a combo of PTSD and PD. Doctors can't diagnose it for insurance purposes so perhaps that is how a professional can address it.
I'm starting to read about ASD because my partner may be dx with it and that's why I started thinking about what axis 2 is.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
