I posted this on the psych med forum but I was wondering if anyone here with BPD has tried Latuda since I know that a lot of people with bipolar take it. I was recently prescribed it for severe depression.
If you've tried it, how long did it take to work? Did you get any side effects? I've been experiencing a "feeling of doom" and restlessness shortly after taking it, and it's been messing up my sleep so I take benadryl at night. I think it's been helping my depression but I'm not 100% sure. I'm just scared that the side effects will make me have to stop taking it in the future. I wish there was a med specifically made for BPD ![]() |

I take it for bipolar, but I found it increased my anxiety. My pdoc thinks it's akathisia so she's given me Artane to counter that. I still take anti-anxiety meds.

I researched akathisia earlier today and it definitely seems to fit what I've been experiencing, although mildly. It seems to fade as the day goes on though.
I read that the anxiety you get from akathisia is derived from a different part of the brain than regular anxiety, though. I don't know how accurate that is, but wouldn't that make a regular anti-anxiety med not work as well? Sadly I wouldn't be able to afford an anti-anxiety med anyway. I'm getting Latuda for free (until I'm on SSI) because she has so many free samples. This just really sucks because it feels like a mild version of the dread I felt on saphris, which is what made me very scared of trying new meds to begin with ![]() |

Pastel how long have you been on it? If it is only a short time I would give it more time. It's ok to ask for different med if it's unbearable. Is it helping enough to be worth the side effects? For me the my weight on severity of side effects vs helpfulness was how I determined continuing or cancelling the med. I hope the side effects pass shortly and you are able to enjoy significant relief.

I've heard it gives you 'ants in your pants at higher doses' Can you lower the dose. It's known to produce anxiety. I don't think any med helps with bpd-maybe zanax.

I've only been on it for about 2 weeks and I'm only taking 20mg of it. Today so far the anxiety and restlessness hasn't shown up at the time it normally would, so I feel a bit more hopeful in that regard.
I'm kind of worried about my sleep, though. I seem to wake up every hour or less. I took benadryl the other night and that helped me stay asleep, but I'm worried about having to take it every night. I have no idea if it's been in my system long enough for it to alleviate any depression or if this is placebo but I have definitely felt less depressed, less suicidal, and have had fewer urges to SI. I don't want to get off of it in case it really has been making a difference and this is the only med aside from lamictal that I can "afford" right now since I'm getting it for free. |

I read that too, which is why I was confused since my dose is low

If it's only been 2 weeks give it more time. You'll figure out both(if ir is really working and if side effects are going disapate) with more time. Latuda worked wonders for me when I was on meds. When do you take the latuda? AM or PM? If you're taking it at nigh, tLk with prescriber aboutit keeping you up to see if you could take it in AM. Latuda actually made me tired at lower doses. Once I hit 60and 80 then I started to the anxiety and restlessness.
