Does anyone have memory problems? I am so forgetful and forget the simplest things.

Sometimes I feel like Dory from Finding Nemo because I lose my train of thought mid sentence.

But for real, I do seem to be very forgetful of simple things as well, and have to set many reminders on my phone.

I guess this is the pay off for having good long-term memory!

Hello

Same thing here..my memory is awful.
Like for example, when I cook on the stove, I turn on the light, so I don't forget.

Lol. I forgot about a load of laundry & found it the recycling room 😱

I forget quite a bit. I have to write things down and stay focused on what I'm doing.

Lately my short term memory is dead. Also, and this is happening for some time now, I'm forgetting words, even simple ones. And that's scaring me.

Memory loss/ forgetfulness, etc..plagues me daily. I forget things in the middle of a sentence alot..this started when I fell and became disabled and had to start taking medication for anxiety and panic disorder..it is a REAL disability for me. It's kinda scary since my dad now suffers from dementia/alzheimers disease...

I'm glad that I am not the only one. I wonder if this is common for us with BPD?

I haven't read anything on this topic in all my ocd research of bpd. I've been plagued with a horrible memory for as long as i can remember. Like back to 8-10 years old. I can only concentrate on one thing at a time, if i try to multitask i forget things and get my tasks crisscrossed and end up having to usually start over with the one thing. It's frustrating and irritating, i tell myself i'm gonna take it slow, write things down etc.. the next time. I've been made fun of and been called names for it and feel so pathetic when it happens with people around. I am completely supportive of this topic, just had to vent a little. I'de like to hear more on this from others and how they cope/deal with it.

I think, at least in my case, that some memory issues are related with the constant state of emotional overwhelm.

I have always had a very poor memory, even when I was young.

I do, yes...but mine is more related to a past coma than to my BPD.

Usually my short-term memory gets dumped whenever my headspace overwhelms me, which is, a lot of the time. I'll be doing something and ruminating over a what-if or a past experience, going through all the emotions at high-speed, and suddenly I can't remember what I was doing or what was just said to me. Feels like someone's clearing my browsing history without my permission.

And, I don't think this is the same thing, but sometimes I'll remember a memory, but not any emotions associated with that experience. Sucks when it's a great memory, because, I wanna' remember what it was like to feel on top of the world! Sucks when it's a bad memory because, if I can't remember what it feels like then how am I going to prepare myself for when a similar feeling comes around?

I mean it's not that I have a particularly bad memory; this doesn't apply to any stuff that's been repeated over and over. But if anything, a couple of important people to me repeat stuff ad nauseam like I do, so... I guess they're right about me? I mean it's not really a subjective issue here, either I remember the thing or I don't, so if there's a noticeable pattern of that...

My memory is bad for remembering if I was upset at all which sometimes I don't remember.
