You're not alone! As there are 9 symptoms listed and only 5 are required for a clinician to make a diagnosis, there so many varieties..

With good therapy I think bpd does improve... but without this ..

Also have you researched complex ptsd? A common misdiagnosis is bpd when in fact the person has CPTSD..

I don't know. I think I'm getting better as I'm getting older, but I'm also in a situation where not much changes. Everything is pretty much the same. I'm stable in a stable relationship. Who knows what it will be like down the road. BTW, I'm 51.

I was diagnosed when I was 35. My symptoms were getting worse with age, not better. The only way they got better is when I started doing DBT.

I'm 50 and was diagnosed with BPD traits at 30. Things are so much better now! I've tried and failed at many therapies and have just accepted that i don't play well with others and have withdrawn from life. I have a sweet, little dog for company and she's all i need.

I started having symptoms in my teens. Got worse and worse and worse until treatment at 30. I HOPE it gets better with age but how long do I have to suffer first?

I was diagnosed at age 18, now am 31. Things only improved with multiple rounds of DBT skills groups and a kick asks individual DBT therapist. Symptoms wax and wane with different life events, but overall I'm doing better (still with indv. DBT therapist).

With good therapy it does improve. I have been stable for 2 years. I do still have symptoms from time to time.

Hmm. I don't know how to answer this one. I'm almost 25 and it seems like I have BPD "flares" all the time. Ya know?

I'm 35. Diagnosed 3 years ago. Things have definitely improved slightly. But there are constant ups and downs. Recovery is not a steady upward curve. unfortunately.

I'm confused whether or not I have BPD.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with me until I was in my mid 30's, triggered by frustration from my marriage, and started hitting myself and dangerously self medicating.

It's been 15 hellish years.

I'm trying to figure this out and remove myself from it.

I do play well with others most of the time. Maybe I can't do intimacy.

My niece was diagnosed BPD. That's when I learned about it. I started reading, trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I've seen a dozen docs over a dozen years or more, one diagnosed PTSD, one diagnosed MDD, most diagnosed nothing and rolled eyes at the others' diagnoses.

I approached the last psychiatrist about the possibility of BPD. He said BPD traits, but did not diagnose.

Now this new psychiatrist, who I have seen twice, said 'emotional disorder'.

I really want to understand the truth.

I really deal with a few extremely difficult people who are my triggers, otherwise, I'm pretty good.

Do you have difficult relationships with many or only a few people?

That's what I am reading about people with BPD, the not getting people, in general.

I think I really do get people very well. I just don't like what I am seeing when their true colors are exposed, when they disappoint me.

People mostly have good intentions, they want to be good, they want to be liked...but they are just human, they put themselves first. The truth about them is usually very simple. If it looks like a duck...

I've become far better at managing my outwards symptoms. When I first started it was a struggle to manage my thoughts and emotions from minute to minute. And while its become second nature to interrupt my natural thought process they are still there, so I'm not sure I'm better.

Plus I now feel like two people the one I was before and someone closer to what every one else is who watches my other half all the time to make sure I don't mess up.

Those few individuals who knew me before think I'm better though. So I guess thats something.

I was diagnosed at age 39 and went through yrs of therapy before I understood what was happening, I am 65 now and my BDP has gotten a lot better due to the fact that I now know how to avoid the pitfalls and the traps of my illness. But my daughter has created new challenges for me to deal with and it can be over whealming at time. The cure won't come overnight it's a life long process and may have no cure but may give you the ability to handle flare ups as they happen.

I'm 46, started with symptoms in my teens. I'm not sure if it's worse now or I'm just more aware. It's all still there..I had no easing of symptoms.
