Although I was only diagnosed with bpd a few years ago , I'm pretty sure I've had it since my teens .

My main symptom of my bpd has been depression through out my life but I've also had a lot of addictions .

At 16 I had an eating disorder . I'm pretty sure I was addicted to losing weight and controlling calorie intake. In my 20,s at one point I had a sex addiction . then i had an alcahol and then drug addiction .
Now im in my 30's i dont drink , take drugs or have sex or control my food intake but im now addicted to online games and tv and smoking cigerettes . theres always an addiction or two .

Is addictions a trait of bpd ? Do or have you had any addictions ?

No, I don't have addictions and never did. I've had vices, but I wouldn't call them addictions, I only dabbled. I'm even very responsible and moderate.

I've been told that BPD usually includes a struggle with one or two of those vices: sex, money, alcohol, etc.. I have struggled with sex and alcohol a few times in my life.

Of course, as we get treatment and work upon understanding ourselves, the hope is that we're able to recognize what we're doing and stop that pattern. The sooner that we recognize how we are feeling & why, we have the tools to work through our difficulties.

I really do not believe that age is a factor. We all have different lives. Some of us carry the BPD traits more deeply than others. That doesn't mean that those people are doomed for life. It just means that some of us are going to have to work a little harder to make changes in our lives. Unfortunately, that is a reality in *all* of our lives.

Yes I struggle with money too . its mostly related to the online game I'm currently Addicted to . it has in app purchases and I'm so impulsive . I keep buying then worry about the consequences after . I'm ashamed to say I only bought my older daughter half of what I wanted to buy her for her birthday because I over spent. I'm still planning to make it up to her by getting her an additional belated present . but yeah my spending is an issue

Me too. I tend to spend more than I make, which creates big problems later down the line. It's always something with me. Very frustrating.
