I have recently stopped Quetiapine because of cardiac side-effects. Now I am wondering if I could stop Mirtazepine and Wellbutrin*. I've been on these three for many years and have been very stable for most of that time. Should I try going off them all?
Do you have any experience with this? |

I haven’t had those meds, but have stopped depressants before. I did it very gradual (and didn’t tell my doc). They were causing so much weight gain; which made me feel more depressed. If you do change a med do is slowly, because you’ve been on them for such a long time. Hope you have success. ![]()

I stopped Mirtazepine last year because it was contributing to weight gain and not really impacting on my depression, just diverting it. However even with tapering the impact on my sleep has been very hard as it reconfigures how the sleep system functions. Still it was worth it, I am dealing better with my feelings at least instead of just suppressing them and much more creative.

Quetiapine is an anti-psychotic. I am on four different medications. I have tried going off of one in the past - Paxil and it was very hard. So I just switched to another one with less withdrawal symptoms.

I've been off of most of them with little side-effects. The exception is Effexor: I had withdrawals for a couple of months.
I would talk to your pdoc or pharmacist before doing so, though. They can give you a schedule to minimize the effects. |
