I asked this question on another thread but didn't have any replies. What is DBT or CBT therapy consist of. Is it helpful? I could sure use some therapy but can't afford it right now. Is DBT used instead of medications? I find it hard to live without any meds.

hi niecy, DBT is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and CBT is Cognitive-Behaviourial Therapy... I was told that DBT is suitable for BPD. Medications are to keep the chemical imbalance stable... so both treatments DBT and medications works together to keep well-being balance and stable. I haven't yet tried DBT as I was told this is recommended for BPD.

Hi Niecy, Hi Lou!!

DBT & CBT are fantastic therapies!! And guess what We teach how to use them right here at PC!!!! Yep to solve personal problems you may be facing!!! As a matter of fact, this morning was the DBT Chat, @ 10:30, w/ Rapunzel, she is a T, volunteering her time to help us! But this is all on the PC Monthly Calender, you may want to check it daily or every few days. I've told you @ the BPD Chats & Live open Chats Sun. & Wed. nights, I host those & would be excited to show you how CBT, DBT techniques work! It's Awesome & Great information, that will help you, if you apply it to your Life.

All my best,
Holmes
Thanks for this!

hi niecy440, may I comment that I've googled and used wikipedia about dbt and what I've read is really positive. I don't consider either google or wikipedia on the net an authority, but a good place to get questions and ideas flowing. Actually the first example of how to use dbt was a situation I've run into (neighbor parked in my space). I would like to learn more about dbt it seems like a method or a way of thinking for those "awkward" social moments that I have sometimes. Just because I've reacted one way in the past doesn't mean I can't learn to react a different way in the future. It seems challenging but win-win and non-confrontational. From what I read on cbt it sounds like I've done some of it, the "goal setting" portion seems familiar. Hope all is well with you, I'm learning too. Awesome question, and nice to learn they assist with both on this site.
