I'm no expert - I do psychoanalysis - but from what I understand DBT individual and group therapy are meant to be good in treating the symptoms of BPD. There are also a couple of other therapies now developed to help treat people with this disorder:

Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP)
Mentalised Based Treatment (MBT)

If you search these you'll come up with more information. Hope you find something that helps you.

DBT seems to offer much promise in treating BPD...

Also pick up a copy of "The Four Agreements". It is the cornerstone of interpersonal issues in BPD realtionships internal and external.

With Care,

Lenny

hi loser37, I'm not a professional and new to bpd myself. You mentioned exercise in your question. I always find when I exercise (love 2 bicycle) it really lowers my stress level. I get out of the house/condo/cave/camper etc and I stop isolating. I feel "properly tired" at night. It helps with my appetite too, my meds sometimes curb my appetite. Overall I just feel better, I have a better self image. There's only wins here, except I'm cautious not to obsess over it. Hope my feedback helps. Now I'm doing 10 miles tomorrow, the weathers been awesome here . Being new I'm interested in your thread, I'll share if I learn something more on this and it's appropriate.
Thanks for this!

Thank Goodness there are many techniques & strategies to help borderline personality ppl. These procedures do require some effort & study but it's worth every bit! Also if you go to the toolbar under Conditions & Disorders - there is information that would give you a good introduction & basis to BPD. You can learn a great deal by attending the BPD & DBT Live Chats held here at PC. Use the calender for days & times. The specific Chats are ideal, especially the
DBT Chat every Thurs. morning, at 10:30 AM (est). PC is extremely
fortunate to have a Certified Theripist, Rapunzel, to help teach us & apply DBT skills to daily situations.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Ive have just discovered, after 25 years of misdiagnosis, that I have BPD. My current theropist is gathering info for me resources about this disorder. Does anyone have info about the best way to proceed? I have read a few books this week and gather that this is a longterm process. Is there any way to expedite treatment? I have lost everything so many times Im ready to move forward as rapidly as possible. Otherwise, I feel I will lose this glimmer of hope. thanks for any contributions

Hi deacon.....welcome!! Know what you mean about getting it done......been there a few times. BPD is not something you can rush though(sorry!) It is a complex, sometimes very frustrating disorder.......some people cope better than others and some get better faster than others. For me personally, i just had to work very hard.

They say there is no cure.......or thats what I was told 15 years ago but I live with my borderline self quite well now and have been able to form good relationships(not without its ups and downs!) and raise my son. I have also lost much. You say you have lived misdx for 25 years. What were you dx with originally? I wonder if you could apply any of your previous cognitive techniques to your current position?

Sorry sweetie, I may not have helped much but you are not alone and you WILL get through it..........we are with you.

Hi loser37

There is a wealth of knowledge out there for us diagnosed with BPD. I found several books by Marsha Linehan quite helpful. We used her DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) handbook in a group setting weekly. Also, our weekly DBT chat is led by an awesome leader, who can answer alot of your questions!

Good luck!

Dee

Thanks for the encouragement Micah. I have been diagnosed with adhd ( which I surely am) bipolar, manic, ocd. I feel like these still have validation but to what degree Im still searching for. The drs have had me on close to 15 diff meds over the years. Hopefully this new diag will allow me to focus on the med issue more quickly coming to a better solution sooner. If only I can get my emotions under control.....Any advise on the processes availble would be appreciated, as I live in a small town with limited theropist resources. Do you know the best means to learn of potential clinics in my immediate area? thanks for the reply
