I've done a very stupid thing. I am in Oregon on a business trip and I knew we would be sight-seeing after the meetings and I did not bring my leg braces. I hate them. I hate hate hate them now that I had to get new ones. I hate them. But because I didn't bring them, I am in so much pain right now, I've just been sitting up on the hotel bed for the last three hours crying from pain. I took two Excedrin's and it didn't touch the pain. I shouldn't complain because it's my own stupid fault but I can't take this pain. I hate that I have it, I hate that I can't walk around a city like a normal person without ending up like this. It's stupid. I'm stupid. MD is stupid. I can't even stand up to walk across the room, how am I going to walk through an airport tomorrow? It's not just my legs, hips and feet; it's my fingers and arms, too. Stupid.

[Hi, I just saw this and I know it has been several days since you wrote it but I do hope you are feeling better. I remember how I used to feel when no-one wrote back to me. I still feel that way. The thing I do know about pain is hating and blaming yourself does NOT work. I don't know why you have braces and pain but excedrin is not usually great for severe pain. A hot bath often helps me if I can get in but a heating pad, a heavy thick and large one feels good when it's really bad. Make sure you don't use it for a fresh injury that should be iced and always use the timer. It is good to always travel with a plan for severe pain. My plan might be as simple as if I have horrible pain I know I can call my friend X_______________.
I hope this helps and I hope you are feeling better. |

I remember when I had knee reconstruction the previous summer.....they made a knee brace that fit my knee exactly for sports & for walking where I might have a chance that I might slip in ice & snow. I had a business meeting in Dayton Ohio that winter.....right at one of their worst snow stroms. I decided to wear my knee brace just in case.....all the alarms went off when I walked through the metal dectector.....it was quite a nuisance, but I sure felt much safer than messing up my knee again.
Sometimes even if we don't like something we need, we are still better off just going with it rather than suffering the consequenses. Something just become a part of life we have to accept. If there is something wrong with the braces that they aren't fitting correctly.....than that needs to be taken care of...otherwise, sometimes we just have to surrender to what IS in our life, accept it, & just go on with life. It may be uncomfortable & maybe even embarassing, but it sure is better than being in pain & not being able to keep up with the others or even hurting ourselves worse. I am sure you will get used to your braces soon......I am also sure they are uncomfortable but I think the pain you ended up in must have been worse.....sometimes we need to have learning experiences to know how things are when we don't do the things we need to.....we learn our limitations & our needs. Next time you will know what you need to do on your next trip. Hope you are feeling better now, Debbie

Oh thank you for checking in on me! I was a good girl and wore my braces on a recent trip out. I have some awesome striped knee socks that make wearing them a little better, but I still hate them. I have been in and out of pain lately....I did go outside and play frisbee today and go garage sale-ing.

Thank you so much for your caring and concern! I made sure we got to the airport very early, so I had time to take rests, I took 3 Excedrin before we left and I used the moving walkways! Thank goodness. I have a trip to Nashville coming up and Lord I do not want to take or wear these stupid things but NASHVILLE!! I can't not walk around there!

I'm sorry you need the braces, but glad you have them and they help.
When I was first injured, well, long story short...my accident took my lower jaw off it's hinges and government health care took 2 years before they addressed it.... I used a TENS unit in the mean time. Back then, TENS were new items (electronic pain killer) and all they had were big thick WHITE sticky electrode pads. I wore them on my face... they covered my entire cheek area on each side and I must have looked like an alien. But you know what? They helped me so much (to live, actually) that I learned to not care at all. I was still who I was, regardless of what "tool" I needed to assist me. ![]()

Hey there ((((can'tstopcrying)))) NO Fun to be in that amount of pain, is excedrian all you take hun?
In the future in airports, they have those carts that are free but can usually ask someone when you get your tickets in the future and they will connect you to flights. I know I did this... I am glad things worked out but I totally agree with you I too HATE, HATE, HATE leg braces and most of the time well alot of the time I don't wear they because they are hot, so yes I can relate. ![]() ![]()
