I told my doctor the Depokote was not helping my migraines. I am still having them every day and taking lots of OTC medications to try and get relief. He told me "well I don't want to just give up on the Depokote. It's a good drug" so he doubled my dose (to 500mg) and gave me a sample of a medication, and wrote me a prescription for it in case it worked. It is called Cambia (Diclofenac Potassium for Oral Solution). It is a powder that you dissolve in 1-2 ounces of water and drink. It smells exactly like black licorice... and tastes just as foul. YUCK! The first dose I took my hubby actually put it in probably 6 ounces. I took one gulp and almost threw up. I couldn't do it. But then we got home and mixed another dose into a shot glass and I chugged it down in one gulp... and then gagged afterwords. But my headache was completely gone in like 20 minutes. I had not been pain free in so long. It was incredible! I felt like I was on top of the world!!!

The next day we went to the pharmacy to fill the prescription... it was not covered by my insurance (Medicare and Medicaid),
and to fill it and get 20 doses, it would have cost us $300+

Grr... why is it that whenever I find something that works, I can't get it?
I am so sick of being in pain!!!

I suspect it's too new and isn't on the covered list yet. Call your provider (or local politician) and amp it up. I am glad you found something that works... but that's hardly a quick remedy if you're out and about. It's an NSAID. Have you tried all the other nsaids?

yes, and they work a little bit. But unlike the powder, I still have some pain, with the powder, it was completely gone!
The pills take like 30-45 minutes to work, and they wear off after like 3 hours so I have to take multiple doses a day.
Which I guess is better than no relief, but I liked the instant and complete relief of the powder and the fact that it lasted so long.

I was on Topamax for a while... until my insurance stopped paying for it... and the generic form didn't work for me.

Hi, I'm sorry you are having such a rough time with the meds. I noticed you said you take a lot of OTC medicine so I wanted to make sure you weren't having rebound headaches and you knew about them. Another idea if your insurance won't cover the new medicine that actually helps, I would try going back to your dr and being honest to him about how much it cost and ask him if he can help by giving you some samples. Some drs are really good with that. I hope this might have helped you even a little. I just got 20 shots in my head yesterday for migraines so I can sympathize. Good luck and hugs!

Oh, yes... I'm pretty sure I am causing myself rebound headaches.
It is a vicious cycle and I hate it.
If the dr did give me samples, he'd have to give me a crap ton of them, because a sample was only 3 doses...
whereas the prescription would have been 20. So I don't know if he would be willing to clean out his sample stock for me... LOL

Medication prices haven't gone down thats for sure, even here our prices are steadily raising and are not affordable by no means. I have always lived by the rule i would reather not eat then to take my meds.

The doctor doubled my dosage of Depokote... it's working pretty good.
I only get migraines 2-3 times a week now instead of every day
