When I went to my T last week, she was talking about how you can be hypnotised to not feel pain. And that they actually use it for people who can't have anaestisia for surgery and stuff. Was wondering if anyone had ever tried it or has heard if it actually works. Hope you have a painlessened day, mj p.s. sorry about my spelling ![]() |

Hi Mj,
I have tried Hypnosis, and I think it works...to a degree. Although, I don't know if I could handle surgery by just listening to my hypnosis CDs. I tried hypnosis because I began to run and my whole body took a beating. And since, I was in a very bad accident a long time ago, where my body was basically put back together, running does not do wonders for my body as it does for others. But I want to run, so what could I do to help me? Well, I tried hypnosis, and I felt more relaxed and I slept better. This was after the first session where I listened to the CD on my own many times. I have seen so many doctors that tell me one thing and I do the opposite....probably because I have never let anything stop me so why would I know....but my point is that the mind is a VERY powerful tool. Although, the pain that I have probably will never go away, the hypnosis CDS I have do help me relax more. AND I do feel better...to a degree! Have an OPEN mind! Hope things work out! Cherrios! |

I have heard of using hypnosis instead of anesthesia. I'm not brave enough to try it. But I guess if it was absolutely necessary for a surgery and I couldn't be put out I would have no other option.
Interesting thing.....I was listening to a doctor show on Sirius a while back and they were discussing human sexuality. They said that studies done at NYU and Rutgers have shown that stimulation of a woman's cervix blocks pain receptors. Whatever nerve is stimulated during intercourse is the same one that totally blocks out pain. So if that is not only possible, but proven, I don't see why hypnosis couldn't work. The mind is a powerful thing.... |

Yes it works. But if you have doubts, it may not work as well...so be sure to learn how NOW before you really need it, and then you'll be ready.
I've used self hypnosis for over 30 years, often for pain. I refined my ability with a dentist who was uncomfortable working on me without nitrous oxide, which I could not use. (I was fine with him working on me without it--he wouldn't. lol) So he worked with me for hypnosis on a more professional level. We then went ahead with the dental work after about 3 weeks. (But remember, I had learned the basics and used them on my own.) Please work with a professional expert in this (and not someone who calls herself/himself a "hypnotist" as they may not have the necessary skills for handling any MI disorder.) A hypnotherapist is the correct term, or another type of doctor/therapist who is certified in hypnotherapy. You'll be fine then. It's a great tool! My first real work (before the dentist) was for a large splinter that had gone up under my thumbnail... I numbed it and felt NO pain...and did this while I was driving! (No deep trance required.) Good wishes!
