(this is CnP from an RA discussion board)

I wanted to see if this was common, or had happened to anyone else. I'm currently on mtx 20mg weekly (8 tabs), IB 800 4x daily, Enbrel (50mg sub q injection) 1x weekly, Plaquenil (2 200mg tab) 1x a day. I occasionally, the least is 1.5 weeks apart--most is 3x in a week, get a deep pain in my bone. Its nowhere near the joint, and the only way I've been able to describe it to people who haven't had it is a really bad charley horse, inside your bone. It comes suddenly and lasts from 10-60 minutes. When its in my leg I can't walk or put any pressure on the affected leg until it passes. The pain is very intense, the last time I had one (approx 8 days ago) I fell against the wall and grit my teeth so hard I broke a tooth.

Has anyone experienced this?

I've tried calling my rheumatologist, but have so far only gotten voice mail. I'm hoping they call me back today before 5. Not overly hopeful as its 4:30 right now. (no word until next week, its after 5 now)

I've reread all the info on the meds I'm on and nothing similar is mentioned, nothing in the RA info I've looked at either, unless I somehow missed it.

I'm posting this to see if someone has experienced or even heard of it before. Sorry for the CnP, but its too long to type up again!

I don't think I would wait....why not call a nurse at a local ER and ask? Or call a resource that could tell you.. Doesn't sound normal..but then??? Have you read the insert with the medicine? I hope you feel better soon.

Sounds NORMAL to ME..... and I have been dealing with arthritis since I was 12 years old and with really bad RA for the last 10 years.

What we need to remember is that RA effects both the joints, bones and the muscle, therefore, a person with RA can suffer from PAIN from all areas of their body - inside and out / head to toe.... not to mention that FIBRO can often develop in a person who has had RA for any length of time - like me.

Hello,I am a "newbie" here, and also have RA.I have experienced deep bone pain in my femur, the upper leg bone that was so intense I thought I would just go through the roof.I am not sure if this is normal or not,but it does happen to me from time to time.
I have Congestive Heart Failure as well, and am unable to take any meds for the RA,even NSAID'S,if anyone has any suggestions for pain relief,I would be forever grateful...
Ya know, sometimes I have "painful veins",its a really wierd feeling, but similar to the deep bone pain,if that makes any sense?I havent heard of this with any others who suffer from this,or even a doc who knows what I am talking about....but it is real, and I wonder maybe others have this same pain but perhaps it effects them differently Bone pain with RA?like radiating pain,or pain that feels like its one thing and really its bouncing off of something else?Do ya'all think I am totally NUTS? : Branwynd

Hello.... as a fellow RA sufferer myself (10 yrs plus) - I would have to say that you just described the LIFE I live on a daily or weekly basis, for you if remember right RA not only effects the joints (like reg. arthritis) but it also gets into your bones and muscles.... that is why people with RA often say they hurt from head to toe, and to where just a simply tap of ones finger on your sore spot will hurt as if someone just punched you there.

Take - Care and if you are a member of any GYM or YMCA take a long soak in their heated pool, it does the body good.

AND - I think the longest time I had the type of PAIN you described here (plus some) due to my RA flares was about 6 months straight.... NOT the LIFE we all dream about or want as we age.
