I had back surgery in 2008. On a ruptured disc at L4-L5. I couldn't walk or move so surgery was my only option. Now I have a whole bunch of scar tissue growth on it. I can't walk for more than 30 seconds at a time. I've gained a lot of weight on APs, I'm bipolar too. Now I have knee problems too. Standing hurts too.

I've lost 22 lbs now that I've lowered the zyprexa. Once I lose 20 more lbs I'm going to force myself to start walking even if it's just 30 seconds everyday.

Just thought I'd start a daily check in for those of us with chronic pain issues.

So let's keep this thing going!

Hello rose1985: The Skeezyks has a ruptured disc in the low back (probably L4-L5 but I'm not sure) with sciatica primarily down the left leg, but also on the right. I keep my weight at the low end of the normal BMI range for my gender & height. Actually, I may be even a bit below the normal range at the present time... I'm not sure.

There have been times, up to a few years ago, when I couldn't get out of bed to go to the bathroom. I've been lucky though that I've always recovered enough to resume my normal activities (until the next onslaught.) I now live in a townhome & there's not much to do of a physical nature. (It was mostly doing chores around the house that caused me to re-injure myself.)

My spouse & I have a small dog & I take him for fairly long walks twice a day every day regardless of the weather. (I have to since we don't have a yard for him to run in.) I've done yoga & had physical therapy. But walking has, by far, been the best exercise for me. So I wish you well with regard to your efforts to start walking.

I see it's been a few days since there was a post/reply to this topic. Hope I'm not too late to put in my 2 cents in an effort to keep this alive like Rose suggested. To Rose and to skeezy: never give up, sounds like you both are doing all you can to keep going as normal as you can.

My lovely list of ailments are...left and right heel spurs with Haglund’s deformity, left and right hip spurs with degenerative disease, osteoarthritis with space narrowing of the joints, which is now effecting my hands, significant degenerative disc disease of the cervical spine causing neck/arm pain, weakness and numbness, spinal narrowing, cervical stenosis, uncovertebral joint arthrosis, disc herniation, kyphosis (curvature of the spine), bilateral foraminal stenosis, mitral heart valve regurgitation, severe sinus issues because of my elongated sinus cavities and chronic kidney stones. Whew.

Anyone who reads this must think, can she even move? Yes I can. There sure are days that I don't want to do much but my limitations only get worse if I don't move. I do find that because of my neck issues I need to be in bed for at least 10 hours a day. It's the only way I can function the next day. I take heart and sinus meds, opiates, muscle relaxers and otc meds plus the periodic antibiotic for bladder and kidney infections because of the kidney stones I pass monthly.

Injections into the spine and hips have alleviated some of my pain. When at it's worse I was like you skeezy and couldn't get out of bed. I had to do stairs by sitting on them like a two year old.

Yes, walking, staying busy during my "up" hours is the best medicine. Hugs to you both!

Ok so today has been an ok ish day, by that I mean I actually managed to use the bathroom without crying in agony because the bone spurs and damaged disks leave me with limited and painful mobility. So that is a positive but now I can't get comfy to sleep by arms keep going numb or I get a sharp stabbing pain in my groin and I am so tired I need to sleep but I managed to get out of the house so I should be thankful for an ok day even if tonight is less great

Yesterday I had a good day but today I can barely move without significant pain. I don't know if I over did it yesterday or just coincidence, but I can't see making much of anything happening today other than a date with the couch or bed.

Hang-in there everyone. Sending pain-free vibes your way.

Pain is now managed sort of except for the sharp spasms I'm coping with it but my general mood isn't great. I've had two bereavements in the last two weeks and both the funerals are scheduled for the same day next week but I can't go to either. I really would have liked to attend my elderly cousins service but it is such a long journey to get there, I couldn't cope physically with driving there staying overnight and driving back, I'd probably need to book in somewhere near the church for a week to recover before I could make the return journey and physically and financially I couldn't do it

I HATE CHRONIC PAIN !!!!! it robs me of so much

Omg I'm so sorry.

I haven't been dealing with my pain. I don't have it if I don't move so I haven't been moving much. But my goal is this week to start this walking video and do as much as I can, about 7 mins at least 3 times this week. It's gonna be hard but I can do it!

Right on for ppl keeping this going....

Lots of pain today. Long story, but I had some falls yesterday. I'm better today but really feeling the pain from the falls on top of the chronic pain.

I hope everyone is as comfortable today as possible. xo

I didn't do the walking video bc of my knees. I think I need to get them checked out. I'm gonna really try and do it tomorrow tho.

Hope everyone is ok.

When I started seeing my physiotherapist she gave me some wonderful advice. She told me to start walking slowly 1 min the first day and each day after increase it by 30 seconds, see it as being in training. You wouldn't get up and try and run a marathon without training and if you did you would certainly get injured. So take it slowly over doing it will see you sent straight back to the starting block.

Good idea, bc realistically it starts hurting after about 3 minutes. I just push though it. I'll start at one minute. Thanks.

Lots of neck pain today, but I've been able to ride it out. I'll take Norco in a little while to help me get to sleep.
