Hi all,
I haven't post in a long time.
It is hard to live with back pain. I have implants and a fusion.
I have trouble sleeping at night. I'm on lunesta. I have tried ambien, it makes me do funny things at night. I've tried melatonin it does not work for me. So if anyone has any other ideals of sleeping meds let me know, so I can tell my doctor.
Thanks for listening.
Izzie

WB Izzie! Is the Lunesta working for you?

I have tried all the sleep meds with no good results. I don't do well with most synthetic medications. However, the valerian root, passion flower and other herbal remedies help...IF they are in high dosages. (Many barely give you any in their capsules and still charge a lot.) There are plenty on the market, talk to the health food store specialists who know which are pure and true to testing their own products (no FDA inspections on this stuff.)

Have you tried self hypnosis, and a good bedtime routine that you stick to?

As you probably know, I suffer with chronic pain too... and I just have to keep doing what has worked ever in the past, hoping it will continue or begin to work again.

I've been dealing with back pain for about 6-7 years. Do you have difficulty sleeping because you are in pain or for some other reason? I think that would make a difference in determining the best way to address the problem.

I've had back pain for 17 yrs now and the most effective medication was AMITRIPTYLINE or also known as ELAVIL. I had to stop taking it cause it gave me dry mouth and started to cause dental concerns. Not everyone gets the dry mouth problem.....I would definitely give it a try!!!! It is very inexpensive if cost is a concern.....matter of fact it is dirt cheap!!! I wish I was still on it instead of the neurontin that they switched me to. Good luck and let us know how it works out. When you start out taking it, be sure to follow the warning items....heavy equipment, driving....cause it can really affect you at the start. It gets better in a couple of weeks. The dosage can be increased to an incredible amount over time.....it really was a blessing for me.

I can feel your pain. No sleeper works for me. Amitriptaline lost it's power. I wake often with pain. I am no on lyrica but probably not enough and it does not make me sleepy. I just started something called flexor patches which is supposed to be for spasm in muscles but they help with my sciatic pain somehow. I paste myself up when I am unusually full of pain and they help. They don't help where I have nerve compression in my back but they do help with more then muscle I think. Hard to tell what is what. I weaned myself off clonazapam and will not go back. That means I have nothing to help me sleep. Good luck.

Ambien also makes me do funny things when I take it. Had to go off it. Nothing else helps me sleep either. I've tried all the latest ones. I suffer from chronic back pain and fibromylgia.
