I already posted a little bit concerning my situation today on the relationship board and just found out by another poster there is a Combat PTSD place! YAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been so frustrated with this whole military VA help and wonder how many others are in the same boat as my husband and me?

I commend your honesty and willingness to try and understand what's happening and seek help for it.
Also, I'm sorry that you are going through this...

The VA

it was a nasty word to me for a long time for different reasons, but I do know their efforts are minimal and nearly useless--but there are ways to fight for his benefits.
It's common practice for PTSD to be intentionally misdiagnosed and to over medicate.

Have you heard of IAVA?
Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans of America. They have a website that will give you information and help in fighting the VA but also other resources.
They are politically active with their top priority to see that the veterans get what they need to regain their focus and motivation...essential for having a peaceful life.
There is also guidance to resources for the spouse.

My best wishes for you to find answers to these problems.
From my own experience with the VA--don't give up. Keep at 'em...

Thank you both for responding! I am going to check out the website suggestion in a few minutes.

Meeting others who can relate to the "wonderful" care the VA system is giving makes me feel validated and reassured I am not just reading more into some of the things my husband and I are finally noticing concerning his care.

To me it is a sad state when my husband gives 23 honorable years to the military and then to recieve crappy care that has done nothing to actually benifit him but instead causing him more problems.

Thats another discussion all in itself!

Does your county have a state office for veteran related issues? These county offices are usually a great go-between in helping with VA issues. -- just a thought.

I wish you and your husband well as you gear up for this...

The Army-Ups, as I call them, are very fluent in the language know as Double Talk. It may have refined to TripleTalk by now.

Short add-in, it took me awhile to apply because of the death of my first husband from his wounds and then I tried to drink and drug away war memories and the devastation of his death.
When I was finally able to apply for benefits, I was informed that the records of almost 5,000 female military personnel were lost. Lost???
It took nearly ten years to "find" close to 3,000 of them.

I won but a tiny battle with them then told them FU.
It was not accepted that nurses were subject to PTSD. I didn't go for disability on that...it was my wounds from the baby-boomer incident.

My plea is for you not to give up. You'll wander the halls of the bureaucracy but you will find your way and then zone in on what is owed to your husband...
