Walking through the house this morning. Suddenly felt a need to cry. Wrapped my arms around myself. Wanted to curse. Wanted to quit. Sudden feelings of unfocused guilt.

Then I saw a picture in my mind of the village where I almost died in combat and saw comfort in returning to that place to finish the work the enemy started. That would be the place to settle things permanently.

This is the first time I've seen anything like this. It makes me want to curse even more. They've reached through the years to affect my life and those around me. And saying this it makes me wonder which life they've affected, maybe both of them, the life that others see in me and the one hidden from sight.

Perhaps a visit to that village would cleanse me. It's scary. Is this the way it starts? Or is this the way it ends?

((((((((((((( Troy ))))))))))))))))

I am sending you loads of hugs
I am not sure that this is the beginning or end, it's probably somewhere in the middle of your journey. Before you visit the village you need to be sure that you are ready to do so, revisiting a place like that could make things more difficult.

Thanks for the hugs ... It would be traumatic, gimmeice ... traumatic might not even be a strong enough word.

As a Viet Nam Vet, I have met quite a number of Vietnamese and have been able to resolve any left over issues about being there back in 1966-7. Any vets of that or other wars, I would appreciate hearing from.

35,000 Veteran's commit suicide every year. That is one of the extended costs of war. I would like to be a part in reducing that number.

Like you, I have no hard feelings whatsoever for any Vietnamese. I've met several and helped some get started in USA. I didn't even hate those we were fighting - it was a matter of survival. There was a lot of rage when they tried to kill me or my guys, but no lingering hatred.
