I know I can ignore a user by activating that option in their profile....but their avatar still shows. There are avatars here that I really don't wanna see. They just give me the willies. I'm fine with completely ignoring the user if I have to, but the avatar is still there, so that doesn't help.

I also know that I could change MY profile to not see any avatars at all, but I like 98% of them.

It would be nice if I could just ignore the ucky avatar, as an option...but I can't. Maybe DocJohn, you could ask the folks who write the software to just have the Ignore feature also ignore the avatar?

Could you pm the people whose avatars bother you and ask if they would consider changing them?

I know that if one of mine bothered even a single person, I would change it to be considerate.

(is it mine?)

You can't imagine how happy my kitty makes me! He's sitting next to me right now, asleep, and is making noises because I think he is dreaming about something. Very cute!

I agree with you Em. Some of them are down right creeeepy.
Like sera369's. Eeep, that one freaks me out. A little Marilyn Manson-ish. Gives me the willies......*shudder* I wanna ignore creepy avatars
I do just try not to look at them though. I am not sure how many cans of worms it would open if we all went around asking eachother to change our avatars. I wonder if it would be taken well??
Would it be infringement on personal rights? Especially if the person was some kind of artist and they drew, or painted, the avatar themselves??
I guess I'm in a strangely philosophical mood today..... I wanna ignore creepy avatars I wanna ignore creepy avatars

Oops, sorry sera369, my post sounds a little personally attacking and it's not, I promise. I respect your right to have the avatar you have. It just freaks ME out. Sorry.

I'm not asking anyone to change their avatars....I'm sensoring anyone. I simply would like the technology offered to ignore those I find upsetting. I don't come here for that.

The only thing I know is to not see EVERYONE's avatars. Maybe you need to do that for a short while? Go into My Profile and click on Edit preferences on that line... and then down at the bottom click that you do NOT wish to see other's avatars with their posts....

seems the only ppl here who DO like the creepy avatars are those few who have them. We can only hope that as the member becomes better mentally, that they change their avatar to something less offensive. This occurs when they either do feel better, or when they at least realize that offending others who care about them isn't worth a stupid avatar.

Wow, Sky please let us know HOW avatar choice is related to mental illness?! That is an amazing correlation to make!! I never knew that creepy avatar choice was a direct result of the degree of mental illness. I'm dying to know more.

How about psychiatric injury? Do people with psychiatric injury have more empathetic abilities to choose "appropriate" avatars?

_Sky...........I do not think you are even aware of how you come off sometimes. Sigh.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought about the comment about people's mental health and choice of avatars. As if one's status of mental wellness has a flying flip to do with avatar choice?

Sweet Angie, consider NOT playing the role of peacemaker here. I know you do not like conflict but often times you step on toes unintentionally when you jump in. This is something that can be continued without interjections from those who dislike discord.

For those that are sensitive to non-agreement (or conflict as most call it) I suggest either the ignore button or to not read this thread.

Thanks for understanding.

Angie,

Thank you for understanding. I respect your opinions and think I understand your reasons for wanting there to not be any conflict.

Thank you for moving out of the way of my toes! I wanna ignore creepy avatars And I will do the same for you if you ever ask, okay?

Take care Angie.

(((((((((Hugs))))))))))

I am just going to give my 2 cents....I do notice that there are some who do change their avatars depending on their "moods" (just some) and that on bad days their avatars are more "creepy" and good days they are more pleasant? Does that make sense? I have noticed this for quite a while on this site and in my opinion, I feel there is some kind of connection to their mental illness with avatar choice for some.

::: not stepping on toes I hope I wanna ignore creepy avatars :::

xoxo

i agree with the point you made zh.....
some people even think the style of dress (maybe goth for example) is a result of mental illness... or peircings even....

but my avatars actually change sometimes based on my mood.....maybe one could constrew that to mean an "improvement" in my illness...

but honestly i dont even care all that much if its offensive...
i just use my avatar to express myself.

Sky, I agree with you! If I'm stepping on toes, so be it. People's avatars is the first thing I see and if it's creepy I don't respond to that person. It's just a major turn-off for me. Some make me want to run and hide or make the sign of the cross! I wanna ignore creepy avatars

Then there are those of us that run from the sign of the cross or religious themed avatars too. Religion shoved in my face is a huge turn off for me as well. Swings both ways Sept. Stomp stomp stomp. I wanna ignore creepy avatars
