for reference, I have no idea what i'm doing. I'm trying to install open Journal, and i'm not having any, any, any luck. how do i try to install it? i've downloaded it, unzipped it, but when i uploaded it, it said there was not file type associated with the file. What am doing/ can I just trust anyone to upload it for me and explain it in English?

I'm having the same problem. I am getting "internal server error" but it's definitely not a permissions thing. I've set the permissions like the cfg file says, but no luck. Maybe it would help if someone could just tell us which file to open first... I had buckets of problems using an older version of OJ, but finally got it to work. I am configging this new version for a new site, but now I'm running in to more, different, birck-wallish problems. Like, I'm not an idiot, I've checked the obvious stuff (paths, domains, permissions - even set them all to 777) but no luck...

I take it back, I was a bit of a shmuck - I did find the file I should start with (I was right in the first place) but I had missed it in the instructions. However, I am still getting errors. Here's what I got:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@thepete.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Apache/1.3.19 Server at www.thepete.com Port 80

Any theories, anyone?

Try uploading your files in ascii mode. If you don't you generally get the internal server error message.
