I have new computer... it is supposed to copy UP to 16x. I find the area (once in a while lol) where I can make the program say 4x or 8x but as soon as I begin to copy... it won't 9says the disk isn't empty etc etc) and when I look, it's back to 16x! I can't even make recovery disks! I hate it when you spend money on something and can't make it work right! Any ideas? I have to take the 8x DVD RWs back pretty soon if I can't figure this out....

Sometimes burning software will search for the fastest speed that your burner supporst and uses that as the speed. When you change the speed is their an "Apply" button as well as an "Ok" button. If their is then you need to click "Apply" before "Ok". What software and burner are you using?

Thanks comp... at least I know someone is out there... I spent another 2 hours trying to figure this out... went online to HP help and their help page I needed kept looping back to itself! I was so angry I could have thrown the thing out the window, given it away to a neighbor or put it out by the sidewalk across the street and paid for it anyway. I' m upset anyway, I bought it from a place I said I'd never buy from again, and paid 2x as much as they have them on sale for now... and I haven't even had it long enough to make recovery disks!

So I say all that because I know it's history that adds to my frustration level, and stress,and when that goes up, my brain is useless, useless, you know?

The doggone thing won't make recovery disks on RW disks. I finally found that on the site, when it's supposed to tell me that within the program.

I still haven't been able to make ANY disk, cd, rw, on any item... haven't even been able to load my 60 day free trial of windows something... grrrrrr.

Ok... at least your response gave me impetus to keep trying... now back to the store to spend another $50 on disks the doggone thing can use.
