could there be another forum created for learning how to deal with emotions? i'm pretty clueless as to how to process emotions and i know others struggle with even knowing what they are feeling at times. i thought a forum where we could talk about what is happening, where we are stuck, etc. might be helpful. i think it would probably fall best under the treatments and self-care section. what do you mods think?
Thanks for this!

Not a moderator, but this would be an area for me!

Bloom, I did find this link and I think that now I might understand why we have emotions after watching, and especially enjoyed the Q&A at the end.

Thanks for this!

I have nothing to do with deciding what forums should be here (or no more than any other member), but let me put in my two cents' worth anyway:

Most issues/concerns have emotions of some sort associated with them. It seems to me that the "best" way to deal with emotions is to resolve whatever issue or situation is triggering them.

For dealing with emotions while working on the issues or situations, there's therapy of course -- plus everything from meditation to other Self-Help techniques to DBT. These probably wouldn't fit together in one forum all that well so you might want to pick the one or two that sound most promising to you, then read and post about them wherever they're being discussed.

------------------------
Ding! Please deposit another two cents.
Thanks for this!

I agree, that sounds like a great idea. A forum like that would definitely be useful for me.

The importance of such a forum is that we can learn from a "healthy feelings forum" from eachother. A lot of us grew up without feelings modeled in a healthy way. We took our unhealthy ways of coping with us as we started independent lives or families of our own. This applies particularly to anger as well as our overall relationships and communication skills...ever notice how popular the SI, survivors of abuse, and relationships forums are? Wouldn't it be nice to learn healthy ways of treating others as well as ourselves?

I agree with everything that has been said.

I grew up not being able to show my feelings or have them. Then got but on a drug that made me feel nothing. Now I'm coming off the drug and am away from my biological family. I have no clue on what some of the feelings I have are. I don't know how to name them. I don't know how to describe them. I don't know how I should react to them.
Thanks for this!

there is a lovely chart of line drawings of the basic facial representations of emotions. it might be the very thing to base such a forum on. many of us have not experienced the full range of emotions, nor do we accurately identify them in others. i support such a forum, and/or a hosted chat around the topic. Maybe we could insert the chart as a sticky in the new forum.
Thanks for this!
