If you look above or below the post you are reading and want to respond to, there is a button that says "Post Reply". Click on it and it will give you a screen with the posting box and smilies etc.

Okay Sabby, I get "Submit Post" and there is no box-- I can only write in the context on your post. Is this okay? Thanks for your help? Will you let me know if you received this please...I forgot how hard learning these new chat/support groups are. I've signed up for a few in the past, learned how to use them, only to find out they weren't worth using. I can already tell this one's a keeper. Many thanks.

Blessings!

There's also the possibility that you have been signed out and haven't noticed, and it won't let you reply until you have signed in, I've done it. But there are several reply buttons on the pages, including in the text box at the bottom of the thread page, and in each individual post on the bottom right.

I notice from the list of your posts, Wishing, that you've successfully started new threads as well as replied to existing ones so you're apparently able to do both. I'm guessing, then, that either the button that you were looking for wasn't where you were looking for it, or it was labeled differently from what you expected, or it did something you hadn't expected.

I found out early on that for almost everything I might want to do at this site, there are two or three ways (at least) of getting to it. If I click on the "wrong" button and get a text box with a quote from someone else's post, I can delete all or part of the quote before typing my reply. If I was expecting a quote but I just get a blank text box, I can paste the quote in myself, etc. I consider the "Preview" button one of my best friends .

When you're looking at a forum index page (like this one), there's a list of the threads in that forum and two buttons (above and below the list) marked "New Thread". That would've been how you started this thread (Replying to a post).

To read and reply to a particular thread on that page, you first click on the thread title and get taken to a page with just that one thread on it. The page where you're reading this reply is probably an example. If there are buttons at the top and bottom of the page, they'll say "Add Reply" instead of "New Thread". Clicking on either button should give you a text box where you can type your reply.

The "quick reply" box at the bottom of the page may already be enabled; if it is, you can just start typing in it without clicking anything first. If it's not, there should be instructions in the box for what to click to enable it.

Under every post in the thread there should be a row of buttons for (among other things) replying to that particular post. If the markings on the buttons don't mean much to you, try hovering your mouse pointer over them:

If it's your own post and you're still within the time window for editing it, there'll be an "Edit" button at the left of the row.

Next (or first, in most cases) is "Reply with Quote". That'll give you a text box with the previous post already in [QUOTE] tags, ready to reply to.

Next is "Multi Quote this Message". More about that one here and here, when you're ready to make use of it. I often go for months without using that feature though I did use it for this reply.

Next is "Quick reply to this message", which just takes you to the Quick Reply text box at the bottom of the page (and turns on the box if it happens not to be on already).

At the far right is "Thanks" which adds your "Thank for this" below that particular post. If you thank someone for their post and later change your mind, you can use the "Remove your thanks" link that'll appear near your thank-you.

So -- were (or are) some of those actually not showing for you, or had you just not found them yet (or not figured them out) when you asked?

Wow, FooZe, you have wonderful information! Thank you for taking the time to help me.

I am seeing my replies go through, but I'm still confused about replying to people who answer my posts (like you just did). The only thing I get when you reply to my post, is the box with your text and alot of smiley faces. In that blank space is where I type my repy. Is this correct? I do not see any Quick Reply boxes or any buttons, just smiley faces.

Also, is there a reason why my profile pic is not showing up on people's profiles when I post. They are just getting the generic face...and believe me, I'm far from generic (just my medications are...if I'm lucky!)

Blessings!

Is this working...let me know, thanks! It didn't appear as if the last post went through.

Let's take these in reverse order.

Both of your replies do show up here so you must've done something right. What did you see that suggested that one of your posts might not have gone through? Well, I can think of one possibility: if it was one of your first few posts and you were still in moderation, you might not have been able to see it till someone from my team had read and approved it. Do you think it was that, or something else?

When I reply to your post? I'm thinking you mean, when you read my reply and are getting ready to reply to it. At the bottom of my reply, over on the right, do you see something that looks like this?
Replying to a post
Those are what I'm calling "buttons". The first one (that says "Reply"), if you clicked on it, would quote my post in the box where you'd then type your reply. I'm guessing it was what you used (because there I am, quoted! ) and the box that you typed in must've been the right one (because what you typed did turn into a post).

The third "button" (with the quill pen) would just take you to a blank text box where anything that was going to appear in your reply, you'd have to type in yourself. That text box, called "Quick Reply", is probably already at the bottom of the page where you're reading this. You can either click on the quill-pen thing and get taken right to it, or scroll down to it yourself.

Assuming that you used the "Reply" [with quote] button, you would've seen a white text box (bigger that the "Quick Reply" one) with some text (from my post) already in it, some editing controls above it, about 15 smilies (and a "More" link) over at the right, and an assortment of "Post Icons" below. I don't usually bother with icons on what I post but I'll put the Replying to a post one on this reply just to show you how post icons work. The only post icon with a special meaning is the "trigger" ("trig" for short): Replying to a post Here are some instructions for using it.

Also, is there a reason why my profile pic is not showing up on people's profiles when I post.
You've probably figured that one out already. Your profile pic (the fairy standing on the crescent moon) only shows up on your profile. It's your avatar (the terrier) that shows up next to everything you post. Could it be that you hadn't chosen an avatar yet when you asked that question?

So far it looks to me like you're learning your way around this site better than you think you are.

I was right, I was right! I just read the other thread where you figure out the difference between a profile picture and an avatar. Also...

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
