Maybe this has been said before (I did bring up something that was already addressed in another thread), but I'm sure you all won't mind hearing THIS again.

This is the first online community I ever joined, back in 2008. I've gotten very spoiled, with how sophisticated this software is. I only joined a couple more communities, but it is no where as easy to navigate in as this site.

My favorite features:

1)The subsciption options. Not only is e-mail notification OPTIONAL, you can choose how OFTEN you want them. Then, you can place threads into folders, keeping it very organized. I joined a site where instant e-mail is the only way to be notified of new posts, AND it notifys you of your OWN POSTS! Stupid! And there's no technical support/feedback forum, no moderators.

The only way you can see if any new posts came in (without all those INSTANT, annoying e-mails on every single post) is to open up every one of the threads you posted in. Tedious! There's not even an icon next to your list of subscriptions, like the way they show up bold here, if there's new posts.

2) The "statistics" tab on the profile page. You can easily find all threads started by a member, or all posts by them.

3) Love the large collection of emoticons, especially the animated ones!

4) Being able to hide forums you never visit from the index list, so you get your own customized list there.

5) The forums are so comprehensive. There's something for everyone here, whether you are here for mental illness or not. I mean, there's forums on games and books and recipes!

In short, I wish all sites were this easy to navigate. I wish they all had technical support & moderators. Gotten too spoiled here that I visit this site more than the others!

Not only that, Owl, but the people here are nicer too. Both the admins and the peeps. I've spent time on quite a number of other mental health forums where you really wouldn't want to go. Bad atmosphere. Bad attitudes. No mutual respect or consideration as between admins and peeps. Some were in the U.K., some were here.

PC is by far the homeiest, most comfortable, happiest, best run mental health site I've come across. It must have to do with DocJohn's personality, of which of course I know nothing at all. But that kind of thing trickles down from the top in almost all organizations, I've found. If DocJohn weren't doing the right thing, then the admins wouldn't be doing the right thing, and they do, consistently. Wish I had some money to contribute. It's the worthiest cause beside the Humane Society I've run across. Take care!

I like the user-friendliness of this site too. There are some minor accessibility issues if you have a disability and need to use adaptive tech, about which this thread encourages me to start another thread because I feel people are open to it. However, the main idea of this site is very good and I like it a lot. Thanks fo rsharing your opinion.

Astridetal: If there's anything we, the general populace, can do to help on accessibility issues, just let us know. I think everyone here would be glad to help out in any way, including letting the management know that we would really be behind any such adaptation. Take care!

3) Love the large collection of emoticons, especially the animated ones!

So me! I only wish they were listed in alphabetical order so I could find the ones I want to use more quickly.

That's an idea! You're lucky you know the names of the ones you use, because for the most part I know what it looks like, but I'm not sure what it's called. I noticed the tongue out emoticon is called , not "Stick out tongue". LOL

Maybe they could be grouped by EMOTIONS? All the happy ones together, the sad ones, etc. Then there's the party emoticons or neutral ones. I noticed they appear in a different order if I don't use the same machine all the time too.

Some of them sort of look alike, and I get them mixed up sometimes!

I also love how a checkmark appears next to a thread I'm already subscribed to in the main page of the forums, AND how another icon showed I posted X number of times, the last post from mm/dd/yy.

Most of the smilies I use are from the same half dozen or so. When I'm looking for a different one I open the [More] window and maximize it (and wait a minute or two for the images to finish loading ). Once they're all there, I can either eyeball them and choose by appearance or use the "Find in this page" feature of my browser to search for something in the name.

Some names come in different versions: there's  and :rolleyes2:

Some similar-sounding names go with very different smilies -- :headbang: and :banghead: for example.

I'm not sure how much good it would do to classify and group smilies. For me, half the fun is rummaging through them and seeing what-all is there that I might still want to use someday.
Thanks for this!

Yes, that is what I'm doing now - but sometimes I know exactly which one I want to use, and that is why alphabetical order would just make it easier/faster for me to find one.

And maybe someone can answer this question - is there a way to add to the more list? Sometimes I can't find one that really expresses what I'm feeling.

As far as I know, DocJohn maintains that collection and it hasn't changed in the 2-1/2 years I've been using it. I've seen members link to smilies they find at other sites, and I'll occasionally Photoshop up one of my own.
