I know there is a ban on suicidal posts in the depression forum. I'd like specifics. Obviously it would be distressing to post intention to sui, but does this extend to posting about FEELING that way? There is a difference between "I want to" and "I'm going to." I am not planning on posting any "I'm going to." But I would like to discuss "I feel like it, I have the thoughts, and they just won't go away." Is that also what's meant by a suicidal post?

i dont know what the rules are but i have seen plenty of people talk about their feelings and thoughts about it. i think it is just about posting intent to do it that is banned. You can always pm me if you want to talk and are uncertain. i am here to listen.

Yes, it is definitely more disparaging and worrisome if you post that you have the intent to do sui. We definitely pull it then, especially if you mention, I will do this with this and that, and then this will happen...

But if you just say you feel horribly, etc., that kind of thing, it is different and is a lot less likely to be pulled than something where you list a clear intended purpose with how you may commit it and where.

And as Kaliope said, stay safe and be safe. Talk to some one if you need too, call 1-800-SUICIDE or do something you love to do, such as music, computers, or journaling.

good question. heres one for you. how would you feel if for example I said -

I feel like sitting down with a sharp impliment and give details of what I "feel" like doing? wouldnt that make the reader feel helpless, scared for the member, afraid the member is going to even if they are not saying they are going to, ...

and what about all the members here that may be on that precarious cliff and they read in detail how another member feels like taking a sharp impliment and ...

my opinion its ok to say you feel frustrated, you feel like crap, feel depressed but giving actual details about the suicide thoughts can lead to other members getting hurt, scared, feel helpless. some may even try to play doctor or therapist unknowingly or knowingly and end up in a whole mess of other things.

me I wouldnt want to cause another member to suffer anxiety, stress, helplessness and other things just because I want/need to post details about my feeling suicidal.

I like how the rules here are about suicide - if you are thinking about suicide thats the time to reach out to your treatment providers, use the posted numbers that doc John has posted. we cant practice therapy on each other, we cant stop someone who is feeling this way and putting each other in the position of watching their friends go down isnt the way to show you care about this place and its people.

I like that the moderators are here to guide anyone that is suicidal by pm to the right resources in their locations if possible that can help them, and I like the fact that the moderators do such a fantastic job of editing out the details or removes suicidal stuff as soon as they can so that psych central remains a place that is safe and as trigger free for its members as possible.

Thanks for asking, LbF. Suicidal posts of the "I'm going to" kind are against guidelines in all forums.

We do allow "I want to" posts. We expect them to get more and better replies in the Depression forum so sometimes we'll even move them there from other forums. The "No suicidal posts please" message at the top of Depression forum pages applies to "I'm going to" posts.

Sabby spelled out the difference between the two kinds of posts here: Rules and Administration > RE: suicidal posts.
