What does it mean when a message says it's being moderated?
Does it mean the person sending the message is being moderated?
Thank You,
H.

It means that the message or post will not be approved and viewable by others until either a moderator has seen and approved it (usually for posts) or the member has approved it (if it's on their visitor's wall and they're settings are that they must approve all posts to their wall first).

Thanks for asking this Happiedasiey and thanks for answering it Doc John

But of course as a curious mind is-- why are some messages moderated? if I may ask... Does a member choose that (their messages to be moderated)?
thanks

Most often it's because the member is new and doesn't have permission yet to post without human review (to prevent spammers).

Sometimes it's because the member themselves are in the moderated group of members, who, for various reasons, need to temporarily have their posts or VMs reviewed first.

or like me some members have chosen to stay moderated so that the moderators can help them when needed...

example I am a therapist here as a member not professional. I have been on other forums where it has made other members uncomfortable having doctors, therapists, psychaitrists, psychologists be a part of the membership, I have also had situations on other forums where I would be there for my own problems and other members would attempt to have me be their online therapist.

I also tend to use words that most non professional people dont know due to my chosen career and also due to my cultural background language / wording is vastly different than that found here on psych central.

for those reasons I have chosen to remain moderated even though I am well past the mandatory 5 post moderation here. I have met others here on psych central that have also chosen to be moderated when they are having problems with language barriers, wording of posts and just having a hard time so they want to be sure their posts are ok.

being moderated doesnt always mean someone has done something wrong. just like all the other great tools and services that is found here, moderation a great tool and service that protects the members and a way to protect ourselves, that I feel makes this site better than websites.
