I'm new here and everyone uses so many acronyms...and phrases that I don't understand... Is there a place to find out what this stuff means? Or do I just need to ask whenever I am confused about something.

Example...what's a "pocket rider"..? I think understand this, but how did it come about? There are also quite a lot of treatment acronyms and situational acronyms that I am just not sure about.

I learned about "pocket riders" maybe 3 years ago by reading mentions of them here at PC, mostly in the Psychotherapy forum. I have no idea when/where the term was first used.

Here are a couple of threads where we've discussed acronyms: 1, 2.

Hope this helps.

This is the earliest mention of them that I was able to find with Advanced Search: Psychotherapy > Austin-T tomorrow: recruiting pocket-riders/possible mob. That may even have been where the term was first used but the way everyone there was responding, it sounded as if pocket riders had been around for years.

is it a cute way of asking for moral support?

Pretty much
A lot of people access PC on their phones. So if you have PC up on your phone, and your phone is in your pocket...voila...pocket riders!

Actually, in my case, people are purse riders! And yes, they are there for moral support.

I interpret this phrase to have morphed into a term loosely meaning to take someone with you. I'll also mention in the old days, the 5th pocket on a pair of trouser's (or a vest) was usually used for very, very important items such as a watch, coins, case knife, etc. to carry on one's person hence, pocket rider? Just a thought.
