My numbers mess up from time to time but I don't let it stop me from coming in. Alot of websites don't have this feature for example NAMI, DBSA, and so on. So when the numbers don't work here I just chalk it up to psych central being like a majority of other on line sites that don't have this feature and instread of numbers dictating which threads I read, I read the ones I want to based on suject line titles. It may take more time but I manage elsewhere without having this feature so I don't depend on it here either.

I don't depend on it, I just find it irritating. Particularly when I'm actively posting.

Still trying to figure out what I can do - but no such luck yet. Numbers are all messed up Numbers are all messed up

I'm not sure what "messed up" means, but if someone could give me a concrete example of what they're seeing versus what they would expect to see, that would be of great help.

Also, do me a favor and try "mark all threads read" in your profile page. Logout, then come back in and see if that fixes things...?

Thanks!

Hi Doc.

Basically, in the replies column, each time new posts are added there is a red number that appears in brackets. Despite reading the post and/or refreshing, said number does not 'disappear'.

Also, for me, not sure about others new replies to a thread do not show up so sometimes I 'miss' posts (red number is not updated).

It is a recurrent problem though. Sometimes all is fine, but all of a sudden red number alert! (i.e. lots of red numbers)

I always did the "marked all posts read" etc. but to no avail, well at least for me...

And the Web browser you use?

In later versions of Microsoft's IE, they instituted some default "privacy" settings which you will have to change in order to ensure that cookies set by the forum are allowed by your Web browser.

If you look at the bottom status bar, you may notice a red alert icon next to the "Internet" icon section. Double click on that, which is the "privacy report." It will likely report a number of cookies blocked.

If you add "psychcentral.com" to the list of "allowed sites" in your privacy tab (click on "Settings" from the double-click, then click on "Sites," then type in psychcentral.com and click on the "Allow" button), you'll be set.

The privacy tab is also accessible from the "Tools" -- "Internet Options" menu.

I have no idea whether this will fix the problem, but it seems like the most likely issue.......

If it's not Microsoft's IE that people are experiencing this problem with, please leave your browser's name and I'll look into it.

Even "marking all posts read" stopped helping.

I am using IE though PC is an allowed site.

The problem is intermittent, but more frequently so lately.

BANG HEAD BANG HEAD BANG HEAD!!!

I don't know why this issue triggers me so -- but I do know that it utterly and completely irritates me!!!

I have refreshed, 'read all posts', cleaned caches, erased cookies, erased histories, ran virus checks, ran spy ware, logged in, logged out, restarted my pc, shut down my pc, I am even PM'd DocJohn (?) and done all of the above. I have cleaned cleaned and cleaned some more but ...........

Problem persists.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

The numbers are meant more of a "guide" than an absolute and can be messed up for many, many reasons.

We'd like to update the software to the latest version when it is released, and that very well may solve the problem for you. Unfortunately, until then, there's not much else I can offer. I'm very sorry.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
