Yes Payne, I am not surprised. Honestly, anything that is "judging" is going to affect the "safety" this site trys to provide. What is special about this site is that it is "not" Facebook, it is more intimate and safe. At least that is what a mental health support site should be. It should be an "encouraging site" to help people take a step to also getting therapy as well. In keeping with "therapy" the goal of every therapist is to give patients a sense of "safety" where they will "not" be judged.

Please do not speak for other members here... It's against our guidelines. Add your own opinion to this thread and then that's it -- your words should speak for themselves (once).

Thank you.

I don't see it. Is it available on all skins or just the default?

I don't see how the "like" button is perceived as judgment. It's basically a way of agreeing with the poster without actually posting a reply.

Hypothetically, if we remove all of the thanks, hugs, and like buttons, there's still the risk of not receiving replies or receiving dissenting opinions. No matter what buttons exist, one risks not receiving acknowledgement when posting. Conceptually, not receiving a like is no different than not receiving a written response that says, "I agree with your assertion."

JD, I found it by accident. Move your cursor over the right side of a post and the word "like" will magically appear.

maybe I am misreading Doc John's message about having the" like button on facebook works so why shouldn't it work here". I think there are so many of us that feel we don't need to be like facebook. This is the first site that I have ever ventured onto that I feel like it is a safe place to be. So many compassionate and caring words are said with genuine intentions. I don't want this to be "like" another site other than what it is. just my thoughts.

I agree with the person who said the placement of the "like" bar is annoying. It makes it look like part of the post. If the final decision is to keep it could it at least be moved down below the poster's signature?

Persoanlly, I don't like the "like" feature. So many PC members struggle with being accepted in the outside world. While the "like" is for the post I forsee people thinking other do not like them because they don't get "likes".

Someone else mentioned they don't belong to Facebook because of this sort of thing. Count me in on that too. Again, someone else also pointed out that popular does not mean good. There might be a billion people on Facebook, but that doesn't mean it's better than PC. The two sites exist for different reasons. Facebook is a social site. While PC is also social, it's primary purpose is as a support site for folks coping with mental health issues. I'm concerned people will be hurt, feel they are not being supported f their posts don't get likes.
Thanks for this!

I strongly disagree with this logic that popular=good or popular=money=good. More like popular=stupid=bad.

I hate likes.

Edit: and I just noticed the likes total at the top of the post page, which then drops down to a list of people who got how many likes. Another popularity notice. Tiresome and typical of the insidious hyper-socially-obsessed net nowadays.

Maybe it could be made so that the "like" button could be an option? Like whether or not you want to be visible at times? So if you want the like button, you can have it visible to your page, but if not, then it could be turned off?

Just a thought. I am not a technologically inclined person so maybe that is not even something that is feasible...

It can be disabled. Go to your profile to edit options.

i like the like button. Share? No. Not if it shares with the sites like FB. A couple of things I hope for.

I know this is your site and it's not up to the community per se but can you put up for a vote on the share idea? Just so you can get an idea of who really would like this? I know for me, I belong to FB and use it but I'm very impersonal on FB, this stuff is far to personal to share openly like that. Secondly, is it only your own posts that would be shared? i think that's the only reasonable and acceptable way to do it.. And lastly, I think an opt out button would be good if you go through with this so that those that never want their replies or posts shared at all, cna turn it off on their profile. If i remain in control of whether certain posts or all of my posts get shared, I have no problem with it. I don't know if I'm helping but just some ideas..

Today I can't either on, my phone. But as Echos mentioned on the computer hovering over the post it pops up to be clicked.

Yesterday the like was on the right of the post when I was on my phone....now gone, no pushing that button for me I guess

Do you know what I see on your page , it is an unlike blue button?
I am confused, what is "unlike" for?

happiedasiy, you 'liked' zilchhour's post, you can click the 'unlike' button if you decided you no longer liked his post.

Well, I have to say that I really like having the options of being able to thank, hug or like, how good it is to have that choice. Thank you.

I also do not like the "like" link thingie. But, if it is going to stay, I agree with what others have said...make it a button and list the people uner the post where thanks and hugs are currently. It's very distracting in the middle of the post.

I personally think thanks and hugs are enough. Like just seems a little redundant.

Thanks for the like button.....I have many times wanted to let someone know I had read their post and Im l"listening" but didnt have the time at that moment to reply back to them. theres also the situation where sometimes I like to think about a post before I reply to it and that person or another member has thought I was being rude by not answering someone...

now I can "like" a post and it mean the same things that my liking a post on facebook means...I've read your post and am thinking about you and your post. with out having to write a message or reply at that very moment.

like fits so much better then clicking thanks on just about every posting I read, just to let a person know I have read their post and thinking about them and their post.
Thanks for this!

I don't much like the thank and hug thing but I think they are better for telling someone you read their stuff.

What if I post I want to go away for good and you LIKE it? Kind of.. like yea I LIKE that you want that...

For me it sounds better with a hug then.... but maybe I'm just picky.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
