Hey, I'm having a lot of trouble downloading the newest version of Java. I've tried to do this a cpl of times in the past month or so, but again, no luck.

When I click on "download now", I have to click on the yellow bar just below the www/web address bar & click on "Install now" or something. It seems to be installing, but then comes up w/ an error message saying I need to check that this version is compatible with my computer or smthg......very irritating!!!

Any help? (Pls & thanks)

Right-click on your "My Computer" icon. Click on "Properties" after that, then, on the right side of the window that pops up, look for the word "System," and the information underneath it will tell you what version you're using. Downloading Java - updated version

sorry I didn't get back to you right away my friend but I had to go to work...actually it shouldn't matter if its home or pro...as long as it is windows...okay first run all your antivirus and spyware programs...if you aren't using anything then try...avg antivirus ...you should also be running a firewll which winxp does come with...this may even be your problem...but firstthings first...I suggest... adaware ...and... spybot S+D ...ok...now that you have those and have run them...well I am assuming you have run them...lol...but that would be up to you...next...go to windows update and download all the updates it tells you are there...once you have done this reboot your system and go to... sun java......download the second one...the one that says offline installation...just in case your windows firewall is the problem...once it downloads go off line and install...if you would like a good place to check and see how secure you are on the internet go to this site sheilds-up...read the instructions and then proceed...on the next page you can do a scan of your computer's ports and find out if you are open to being hacked...try all the scans if you like but the inportant one is "all service ports"...a quick explaination of what will happen...the site will scan your computer's ports sending packets of info to each port...if it can gain entry to your system your cd-rom tray should open...if not you will get a true stealth reading...let me know how this all went...

Hi Mystry,

I tried downloading the second Java program (offline) from sunjava, but it was taking forever - over 10 mins & it said only ~1% was dowloaded.

So I tried to download the regular Java (online) program & it will download (apparently) & it goes to install, but then after a minute, this error message comes up (from Windows Installer):

"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vedor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package". (???????)

Thanks for the help......what do you make of the above message & problem??

Yeah, I tried the windows installer thingy & it didn't work either. Thanks for your help, but I'm fed up. I'm in no mood to try to get this damn thing working.

Btw, what the heck does 'bump' mean?

Hi Mystry,

Oh.......that bump tactic is cool. Never heard of that before.

I tried to go to the Caphyon page to d/l the advanced installer. It appeared to d/l 99% of it, but wouldn't stop after over 10 mins...I just got frustrated and irritated again, so I aborted the d/l.

Maybe my computer has a virus???? I don't know, but it's really annoying.....

Thanks again for the help.
