the website is so slow? It just creeps along and it's been that way for weeks. It's not my computer because I have a brand new one. None of the other websites I visit are nearly as slow as PC.

I'm usually the first to complain about the site being slow as I've had my fair share of it in the past, however, things at PC have been running fine lately.

If you're not specific with a piece of feedback, it's unlikely we can be of much help. We regularly check our site in page speed and external testing tools (like Google PageSpeed and Pingdom). They show and report no problems with the site at present. If you tell us what specific area of the site you're having difficulties with and at what time of day in your time zone, we may be able to investigate further.

More specifically, if you're talking about the forums(?), they will be slow at specific times of day (in the middle of the night when we're performing backups, for instance) or under heavy usage; there's little we can do about these specific slowdowns.

If it is the forums you're talking about, they are scheduled for server upgrades this summer, which should help with any slowdowns you may be experiencing.

Best,
DocJohn

Well I'm having HUGE problems with the speed, or rather the slowness of Psychcentral and have had for a few weeks now, though it's getting progressively worse. I'm experiencing it right now (10.30pm Greenwich mean time) trying to get into this forum and this thread to post (I was actully on my way here to post a question about this anyway and saw this thread. It's been trying to load for the last 5 minutes and still hasn't managed it.

It's also taking forever to download my PMs to which I'm trying to reply. It's taking several minutes to down load anything anywhere on Psychcentral, and it's not my computer or internet connection as I'm connecting fine to other sites.

It does seem to happen regularly at this time of night - from about 9pm onwards - does that coincide with your backups (it never used to, that's why I ask.) Less so during the daytime here (when I can't usually make it to the computer anyway) but even during the day it's a lot slower than it used to be.

Any thoughts on what I can do?

ETA: Well it's now eight minutes later and I've waited all that time for the connection to 'Go Advanced'. I've cancelled that as it's not doing anything and wanted to add this edit. What is going on here??? I'm giving up going advanced and will try and post this straight out.

Well it's now 9am GMT and while I can get into the site ok and post ok - there is still a noticeable delay. Things are definitely consistently slower than they used to be a few weeks ago I ended up last night losing a subsequent post I tried to post here and the one I did post doubled up - when it finally decided to post itself - it's very frustrating!

While I'll keep looking into whether it's anything to do with my computer/internet provider/broadband reception etc, I can't help but notice that I can get into other internet sites and use them much more quickly than here, which rather points to PsychCentral potentially having a problem.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Slowdowns have been exceedingly rare for me in the last year or two. A few times in the last week or so, I'd noticed that a page seemed to take an extra few seconds to load. It wasn't consistent, though, and didn't seem worth the trouble of reporting.

About 20 or 25 minutes ago, however, I suddenly found that every Forums page I tried was hanging up for several minutes. I tried clicking Reload; same result. I tried closing Firefox, then restarting it and restoring the session (4 tabs); same result. After about 5 minutes, the problem seemed to fix itself and now pages are loading normally again.

The later versions of Firefox don't give as detailed status reports as the old ones used to, but the problem seemed to show up while "waiting" for Psych Central, not while "connecting" to it. Most of the time, the title of the new page didn't appear in the tab; once it did, the rest of the page soon loaded. I didn't try any other sites, nor any Psych Central pages outside the forums. If it happens again anytime soon, I'll see if I can get even more info.
Thanks for this!

I had exactly the same problem as you 25 mins ago, so something must be up. I was stuck on the same page for minutes. Now its fine again.

Nothing on our side. We have times when our traffic picks up randomly throughout the day, and hitting reload will often fix the problem. Or just coming back in a few minutes...

As I said earlier in this thread, the server is scheduled for an upgrade this summer. Until then, there's nothing more we can do, as we already have the present server configured for maximum performance.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
