Should people who are not the OP of threads be able to report them and get them deleted?

Recently all my posts were deleted, but the OP of the threads claims she did not or would not report them.

If the OP is "accepting" of the comments, why should others be allowed to get posts deleted for the OPs thread?
Thanks for this!

Sometimes (and I'm not talking about yours and I hadn't read them) posts really are in need of being deleted. Sometimes they're just very much not supportive or who knows what else.

It does not, and should not, always have to be the OP who reports a post. Sometimes posts within threads go off topic and don't even involve the OP. Sometimes the OP would be too scared or upset to report it. That actually happened on my very first thread - two users got into an argument and it had nothing to do with me or with my topic, and I was overwhelmed. Someone else reported it any my thread was closed.

Reporting doesn't always lead to deletions. If someone reports something, sometimes it's totally left alone. All reporting is doing is bringing it to the attention of the mods, because there's no way that they can always keep on top of every thread and post. So, once the mods are aware of it - it's their judgement if the post needs deleted or not. So if it's deleted? Then the mods obviously thought there was something inappropriate. Someone else just brought it to their attention.

Isn't it the moderators who decide what gets deleted? And, I don't know how things work on this forum, I haven't been here that long, but is it possible that the moderator read the post on their own and made the decision? I am not saying this is the case or making a judgment about your posts-I don't know what was written-just wondering if maybe it wasn't a member at all. I agree with A Red Panda, that because it's a public forum and all the members can post on a thread, any of the members can be offended by a post, not just the creator of the thread. If someone reports a post and they are taking something personally because of their own stuff I would think a moderator would come to that conclusion and, as an unbiased party, make the correct decision. I would imagine that's how it works, but again, I am pretty new here.

The reported post functionality is not going away, sorry.

Reporting posts is a standard way of letting the community support team -- the moderators and administrators of the forum -- to know when something may have violated our community guidelines. Moderators do not remove threads or posts unless there's clearly a violation of the guidelines, and it appears the thread or post is causing harm to other members.

Just because a member is "accepting" of someone else's post that violates the community guidelines Doesn't mean that it's okay. The guidelines are what make the community a safe and supportive environment, and such selective enforcement of them would make it much less so, IMO.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
