I get this message:
Could not connect to chat.psychcentral.com:8080. Possible reasons include: - The chat server system at chat.psychcentral.com is temporarily unavailable. - Your computer is behind a firewall or proxy server. Please ensure that your firewall permits outgoing TCP connections to chat.psychcentral.com on port 8080. I think it is something do do with not loading the applets. I just downloaded the latest version of Java. I also just downloaded the latest version of firefox2. I have Java settings turned on in firefox. When I go to the control panel - advanced - to check my Java settings they are turned off for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. I try to turn them on for Firefox and I get a message saying that either I should check that Firefox is installed properly or I don't have sufficient priveledges to change that setting on Firefox. I could turn Java on for Internet Exlorer through the control panel though. What is up? I'm using my own laptop. My connection is through university wireless, though. The login is diverted and I need to login via the university before I can access. Maybe... They are doing something so I can't change the Java setting on Firefox through the control panel? Maybe... They have a firewall that is blocking chat more generally? It won't let me access chat with Internet Explorer either (I get the same error message) but Java settings are all on for Internet Explorer. Thoughts most welcome... |

I had this problem for a long time.
One day when I was updating my Ad-Aware and I had to click "configure", that particular port showed up. I un-checked it and I have been able to access chat ever since. I eventually discovered that this particular error doesn't have anything to do with Java. I don't know if this would apply to you but thought I would mention it.

Hrm...
I'll check out my wireless configurations... Maybe it is something to do with that... (Not that I'd know it if I saw it most probably) Thanks. |

My work PC will let me access chat so it can't be that my laptop is prevented by university firewall or I wouldn't be able to enter chat on my work PC either...
I'm not sure how to check my wireless settings to make it allow me to enter chat... Any thoughts? I'm rather computer illiterate... |
