There is a thread about suicide in 'other mental health discussion' with no trigger warning and no indication that the content relates to suicide:

http://forums.psychcentral.com/other...will-read.html

I don't want to start drama. But I have reported the thread a couple of times to ask for someone to add a trigger warning and nothing has happened.

I get that the sentiment behind this thread is lovely and it's a great idea but personally I am careful to avoid content relating to suicide if I'm in a place where it will be triggering or upsetting for me. I thought it was PC etiquette to flag it up so people can make an informed decision about whether to read it. This thread was not safe for me and I felt ambushed by it. A simple "TW: mention of sui" would have prevented that.

I don't use chat so maybe everyone else knows what it's about and I'm the only one who feels ambushed by it. But could someone please add a trigger warning to it just in case?

I feel bad that you were triggered by this post. I hope you are ok. Most of the time the moderators find these threads and put the trigger warning on them. Sometimes they get missed. I hope you don't run across another one, but if you do notify one of the moderators with a pm message. That's what I do when I see them. I am sending gentle hugs your way((((((((tinyrabbit)))))))))).

Hi Tinyrabbit,

I'm sorry you were triggered by a thread and hope you are feeling better now. Usually threads about things like suicide have trigger warnings in the form of the trigger icon Threads about suicide which is true in the case of the thread you mentioned. If you haven't read it already you might want to read this thread http://forums.psychcentral.com/new-m...ease-read.html which explains about the use of the icon on PC as a warning about potentially triggering material

Thanks for your replies. However, I have to say I don't think the trigger warning was adequate here. Suicide is a serious issue. The thread title has no indication or warning about the fact that it talks, in some detail, about feeling suicidal. Surely the title should say that it mentions talk about suicidal ideation?

A trigger warning is a sign that it could feature all kinds of things: talk of SI or abuse or all sorts. It's also not amazingly clear on an iPhone. It's not enough to help people make an informed decision. People talking about their desire to commit sui - even if they are talking about resisting that desire - is something that is just not safe for me to read. How are we supposed to take responsibility for ourselves if we are not given the info we need to do so?

Also the trigger icon comes up at the start of the thread but I clicked through from unread posts to a later page that had a heart icon.

I just thought someone should warn that it's about suicide so people can decide whether that's safe to read.

Thank you, that's kind of you to say. I'm okay but had I read this a week ago it would have been far more unsafe. Hugs to you too.

Tinyrabbit, I'm sorry you were triggered by the post/thread. I was not triggered by it, but had similar feelings when I started reading the thread. I agree that the idea behind the thread is great, but it has the potential to blindside folks who are in a fragile state.

Thanks to whoever on the mod/admin team who addedd the "mention of su" warning in the subject line.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
