Not to change the topic of the thread, but to make two quick notes: (a) Psych Central has never run an ad on its homepage and (b) members who are logged into the community will not see an ad on 99 percent of the forums.

I could be wrong but I think Google shows ads on websites according to your search history.
Thanks for this!

You're right, Angelique. I've had that happen quite a lot.

As far as the little notes by the side of your name... only one I did not like was "grand" something. Reminded me of a grandma, lol

I believe that is true. I see things on sites such as Facebook that I looked at on Google.

Are you saying that if I prefer to not have them, then I am not a part of this community? Does it make me a lesser human being in PsychCentral's eyes????

Seems to me, that given the fact that people have the option to choose a mood, a location and an avatar, then the other things should be equally easy to make "user-selectable"
If it's any consolation to you, I agree with you. It reminds me of how I wasn't the popular kid in school, and now not the popular one here. (Not a lot of hugs received, not a lot of posts for 6 years on this site, etc.) Everything seems to be based on number of posts. The more you post, the faster you move "up the ranks" and get a new title.

I don't like titles in general, esp. in the corporate world. Someone who is a "manager" may do less than someone who is a "mere assistant". And cause I have very limited access to the Internet, I post very little each week. It took me 6 years to get to 2,000 posts to finally change that title.

People who have been here just 2 or 3 months but have fewer posts than me (like 1,312 as an example) are "Superposters" cause they posted a LOT in a short period of time. So, it's based on number of posts within certain time frames as well. And people need to have a minimum number of posts to join Social Groups too. I think it's 6 or 10, something small.

Gotta get crackin' Manx! LOL I thought "Poobah" sounded pretentious too, but it's supposed to be a compliment, according to the dictionary. My title automatically changed to "Magnate" at 2, 000 posts, which sounds better, LOL. FYI, you can also reset to the PC default title, if you want to go back to it for some reason.

Hurry up so you can be "Hello Kitty."

I never pay any attention to people titles or whatever. I just read posts. I think fewer people than you think really care about them

(((((sophiesmom))))) you ARE a part of this community.

It's all about posts: I've seen people who have been members of this site longer than I have, but they are still referred to as "new member" or "junior member" because they have (for example) just 10 posts.
