Is there a way to not have them? I have no interest in being labeled unless I put it there myself....

Grand Member? And the hugs badge? And (SuperPoster!)
Anyway to get rid of those things?
Thanks for this!

I think you can change title through user cp. Not sure about badges, etc.
Thanks for this!

Unfortunately, the hugs badge etc. cannot be removed

I don't think you can change your title until you have a certain amount of posts and then you're allowed to choose a title. To do that you'd have to make a lot of posts and then you'd still be stuck with the Super Poster label
The hugs badge... I don't think so.
Thanks for this!

Yes George is right, you have to wait for 2000 posts in order to be eligible for a custom member title.

You may also refer to DocJohn's announcement to this effect:

Thanks all.

So, basically, this is forced on members....

I don't see why Psych Central doesn't make this an option. I am sure that I'm not the only one who doesn't appreciate it.

If you want it great, but WHY can't it be an option?

Because we've had badges for 12+ years here, it's an integral component of being a part of a larger community.

It's no easy thing to make this a user-selectable option and, at this time, not something we have the resources to implement. Sorry you don't like it.

I'm sorry, I do NOT see how they are "an integral component of being a part of a larger community"

Are you saying that if I prefer to not have them, then I am not a part of this community? Does it make me a lesser human being in PsychCentral's eyes????

Seems to me, that given the fact that people have the option to choose a mood, a location and an avatar, then the other things should be equally easy to make "user-selectable"

sophiesmom, I don't like them either. I automatically received the title of "poohbah" which sounds a little pretentious--which I guess I can be...but still.

I'm working toward 2,000 comments so that I can remove it.

They don't bother me and I like to see where other members stand in the community and if they are active.

It has never bothered me to be honest.

I feel that since PC is a "free site " there is always going to be things we like or dislike and I am okay with that. I'm just glad that PC is available for me or anyone for free.

Just my opinion

I am a huge PC fan also. However, aren't all forums free? I really don't know as I'm not a member of many. The ones I AM a member of, and those I have just lurked in do NOT do this.

No, I have bumped in to some that are a" membership deal"... with "live therapist" that will help you since "your " paying"

Was never much inclined to pay even if I had the cash to do so,

I already "pay" for my Pdoc and T, why pay unknown folkes on the web to do whatever to support me? Hense, I arrived here and found my home.

Oh you're referring to those forums with therapists....that's understandable.

But there's no therapists here are there? At least I have never met any.

I do know that there is advertising and so someone is getting something or it's paying for something or......IDK.

eta: I DO think my request is a valid one.....If you like them keep them, if you don't then opt out...No harm, no foul, nobody gets hurt.
Thanks for this!

I have bumped into a few people that I honestly think were T's in real life offering me help when I was in a very very bad place, I never asked, but it was a gut feeling, I was just grateful that I got support I was in much need of.

Maybe things will change about the stuff surrounding our screen name, I think I have been an "elder' for a long time now , I just never noticed to be honest LOL , But then again I am getting old

I just find myself thankful to have this resource. I have been a member for 10 years and its nice knowing I can come to this site (which is free) and seek support from my peers. I also enjoy offering encouragement and attending chats. I talk to several people on here regularly.

I don't feel I have any reason to complain about something on my profile...I am here because I have issues and want to be a part of a supportive community and to also give to it. If I want to personalize and update my profile...I go to Facebook.
Thanks for this!

I am glad you enjoy it. As I said, I don't and see no harm in having a choice.

I tend to not value people depending on their length stay here or how many posts or hugs they have given. Frankly I don't like it, but to each his own (and that was my original question, anyway....)

I go by their actual responses.
Thanks for this!

If that is your photo, then no, no, no....that would be impossible. If it's someone relevant in the media, then I'm out of the loop and don't recognize the photo.

sometimes we just need to accept things that we cannot change.....

And somethings that seem easy to change, really involve A LOT of behind the scenes activity/resources....it is not a matter of just hitting a button and the option changes...

Psych Central has been an invaluable resource to me....labels, badges, and all....

Yes, OP you did post a valid question....and it has been asked and answered

Sophiesmom, I hope you don't mind me pointing this out. I dislike the ads on the home page. Once there was a thread about coffee that I participated in and I'll be darned if there wasn't an ad for coffee on the front page. Then I came here right after visiting eBay. There was an ad for eBay once I signed in here. I guess it's just a coincidence but it felt a little creepy. No matter how you look at it though, PC is getting money from the ads they show.
Thanks for this!
