The current events section has the following guidelines:

For instance, perhaps I wanted to discuss the declining percentage of voters participating in the democratic process. This is certainly a current event, and plays significantly in shaping our current events - but do I have to do a search to find an article first and, failing to find one, scrap the thread? Thanks in advance. |

Hi yagr,
The requirement of a link is enforced so yes, you need to make sure you find a news story to post a link. I hope this helps, TheWell |

Ygar, I've been in that situation. Had a topic I wanted to discuss, but hadn't read something about it. Usually what happens is that I see or hear something then go off on a mental tangent. I google the topic in order to find an article I can link to. It can be a pain, but stays within the guidelines. The way I came to think of it is that it's the "current events" forum not the "this is my opinion" forum.
